DT36 Posted January 1, 2017 Report Posted January 1, 2017 I've just looked on one I have here and the barrel removes fairly easy. Looks like there is a small spring clip that needs to be pressed in to remove the barrel.

The part number on mine is 70 ab 3675 a2e and have seen this on on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-GENUINE-FORD-ESCORT-Mk1-IGNITION-LOCK-SWITCH-70AB3675A1E-6000721-/252319890964?hash=item3abf6ffe14:g:7WkAAOSwjyVT0Plx The only difference between the two is this one ends in "1e". Before I splash out and regret it does anyone know if this one will fit and work or where I could get one? Thanks in advance Andy Take a look at this. However, I just tried to remove the barrel from the one I have here, but it only comes so far out. It does look the same though. Andy060172 Posted January 1, 2017 Author Report Posted January 1, 2017 Hi It looks like a later one maybe for a mk2 as the key fobs aren't the early ones. One of the challenges is that if I was only to replace the barrel I can't be sure of the part number until it's out of the assembly. With the key stuck in the barrel I wanted to have a new to hand to swap straight in. Thanks anyway appreciate you looking. 1

Andy060172 Posted January 1, 2017 Author Report Posted January 1, 2017 Sorry should have been clearer but the key is stuck in the ignition barrel and won't come out. I can still start it but can't get the bloody thing out. The bolts they used on the ignition assembly look they once they were tihgtened the heads sheared off I guess as an anti theft device so to take it off you have to drill them out. Hence wanting one quickly and on hand to replace immediately. Never thought they would be so hard to find. Even on the phot you posted the bloody part number is different again!

khanlad Posted January 1, 2017 Report Posted January 1, 2017 If the key is stuck in and turns, drill the shear bolts that hold the complete unit and take to a lock smith? Or in the picture above you should be able to turn the key to a position that i cant remember and prize the barrel from the casing
