I have got a nos oil dipstick and am not sure what engine its for . The numbers / letters on it are 751M6750BA , but I am not sure what engine block and car this is for ? I assume it's a 751M block ? But don't know for sure . Can anyone help in the identification of this part and what model car it's for .

Regards

Dave.

This is to fit a 1100/1300 rear bowl xflow engine - my very original mk2 1300 escort (which has a 711m 1300 block) came with one and all of the other 1100/1300 engines I bought came with one too. Numbers crossover - it doesn't mean it's only for a vehicle designated with "751" - for example a Lotus twincam has an anglia 105e dipstick.

The info I found around the net is conflicting to what you say then, the ref I found was that the 751 dipstick was for the Capri and as you say numbers can be used on other models like the 105e number. But another  part to my findings was the BA on the end of the number denotes the length difference to one with BB on the end. This was only my findings on info around the net and not personal info. So maybe we are back to square one ! There must be someone out there with a Ford parts book or micro card for the info surely.

I posted this on another forum for the Pinto engine but the same principle applies...

This will apply to any engine and any sump you fit to that engine.

There is no difference in the levels as the low/high mark on the dipstick is relevant to the block/ sump face not the sump capacity.
What can throw the measurements off is the dipstick and tube combinations, there are several sizes, on the Pintos, 2 more common than others.
It's the dipstick tube combination that should not be swapped around.

oil level in the sump is related to a nominal volume to achieve an oil height that is not so high that the crank can splash through it and not so low that on hard breaking or cornering the pickup is exposed to air.

think about it, if you took the sump off and propped the engine over a bath you would have to put hundreds of litres of oil in the bath to hit the dipstick level marks.

if you put the engine over a shallow tray you could achieve the minimum mark with under a litre of oil and the max mark with less than 2 litres.
