Ouch, that'll cost you!

Don't mention the M word :P

I didn't even mention it when I was at the 'Bristol Classic Car Show' a couple of weeks ago (which is actually about an hour clear of Bristol) and I still copped an ear full from the typical jumped Ford seller. I was interested in a chopped-about engine-bay-only wiring loom that I found in a grubby bag on a stall with Ford products. Only wanted it for some of the connectors. Your man barks £250 for that one mate, never been fitted, still in original bag, specific to the AVO Mexico RS2000 blah blah

I just walked away laughing...

and if it was a mex engine bay loom @ £250, you should have bought it, used its worth £5-600, maybe even more, and if NOS I would hate to even think,

never chop a mex loom just for connectors

You Escort guys are fecken crazy!

Not being funny but it probably wasn't even for an Escort - we all know the type. And if it has been chopped about then as far as I am concerned it's no longer an original loom for a specific stupidly over-priced car - at that point it becomes a jumble of grubby wires in a bag. And I've already got plenty of those haha

Also, I should point out that I would never have chopped about an original Escort loom, Mexico or otherwise. But I saw a crappy old loom and thought I'll see if I can get it cheap for the connectors, boy was I wrong.

Main reason why I have a standard loom in mine. Not paying hundreds for a loom with couple of headlight relays.

Even the relays go for close to 100 pounds ?!!!

Fused Lucas 6RA relay? I bought one for £3.00 at Powderham show one year (about 2007 I think). I put it on eBay when I decided just to use a modern relay, it sold for about £120! I was gobsmacked!

I have a box with a loom in it that came with my mex but not exactly sure whats in it and some of the connectors are missing. Maybe youll know if i put up some pics.

As a result ill consider all of them and then get rid of the ones i dont need or keep them as spares.

Hi Stu

engine bay loom is definitely not a mex one, although as Mexican Gerbil says, if your not bothered about it being correct, you can make it work, front to rear, operates back lights, reversing lights and fuel tank sender, you would need to tape them back up and put them in tha car to see if the wires still reach, they can be extended, then appropriate bullet and spade terminals fitted, the under dash one would need looking at I real time, compare what it runs as to what its supposed to and identify everything before saying if it needs anything etc

Cheers Ray. Been meaning to get it out of the loft and compare it to the ones Dave sold recently as he had labelled it all which helps. Got any ideas what the engine bay one is from?

The loom will have bullet connectors for the head lights via a relay I belive. Also there is no oil sensor wire. The starter and solenoid are on the drivers side of the car.

I have a standard loom with extra wires for the Rev counter (which sometimes works- don’t bother me much) and as I have a 5 speed box with Sierra bell housing the starter is on the passenger side so all that fits perfect.

If someone has a correct loom in a mexico on here can you explain better than me?
