herb capri Posted July 30, 2018 Report Posted July 30, 2018 I have got a Mark 1 Escort 2 door deluxe which is very original in styling ,1600 engine(originally 1100) few mods like 5-speed and brakes lowered but generally standard one I am finding it now it seems like this is something that people view in shows and clubs that is almost passed over in enthusiasm for those who have now gone down the road of modification in extreme engines and drivetrains. maybe is the younger generation coming in and I'm an old fart that kind of looks at this as the only high value Motors that retain the original aspect of the design for example rs mexico twin cam and the Lower End seems not to be exempt from total notification and original engine disposal. I can't see any 2 door deluxes about as now all seem to be mexico lookalikes, must make it as rare as a twin cam! But it seems that you are looking at a dying breed of common cars, The mods I have done basically took it to a modifield in the 70s feel, now the mods on show are wildly different. Are we ever going to be leaning on to extreme power plants or will standard ever be viewed as cool again?
Kenbex522 Posted July 30, 2018 Report Posted July 30, 2018 Well its phases isn't it. Remember the 70's of customised cars? the jack up kits furry interiors etc bloody hideous if you ask me, but that was the rage. 80's was the era of fitting bodykits and wide wheels. 90's was hit by the recession so I don't recall a big scene as much of anything then as I do the previous periods. 2000 onwards has seen the era of 60's retro modifieds, zetecs pintos Vauxhalls red tops finding there way into everything. More recently has seen the transformation into putting huge modern wheels on old 60's cars which personally I think look gash, but its each to their own. Increasingly I'm now seeing high power Jap engines some with turbo's finding there way into 80/90's cars. I blame the Fast and Furious films for all that. 1

OSF Contributor Mexican Gerbil Posted July 30, 2018 OSF Contributor Report Posted July 30, 2018 I will always pay more attention to a standard car. I don’t like the heavily modified big BHP cars. Just my preference though.
OSF Contributor Mexican Gerbil Posted July 30, 2018 OSF Contributor Report Posted July 30, 2018 According to the “how many left” website, there are only 78 Escort Deluxe models on the road. With 114 sorn.
herb capri Posted July 30, 2018 Author Report Posted July 30, 2018 I agree with the ' in phases' situation it's 100% right and thanks for the compliments on the escort .though I must get round to fix in the bottom of that door properly just realised on that photo how gash it looks! As to the comment from gerbil about the how many left website, most of those will probably be 4 doors but they don't distinguish between 4 and 2 I just thank god we haven't gone for that stupid Japanese , high exhaust /trumpet /snorkel idea....... Or have we? Mike 1
