Forget the missing tooth and add a cam sync and nothing needs balancing AND you get full sequential for free!

36-1 just counts the rotation so you fire two injectors at the same time! As the engine will have 1 & 4 or 2& 3 on fire ping stroke with the cam sensor the ecu knows what cylinder is on it’s firing stroke so can inject a more precise amount of fuel for the desired throttle response

Pretty much what ^^^ he said. The SYNC (cam) pickup identifies where any particular cylinder is in the 4 stroke cycle of 720 degrees and with correct software, an ECU can both inject and spark exactly when each cylinder needs it and also allow individual cylinder injection variation to lean off / richen up to address each cylinder's requirements. This is primarily for idle upto mid range running for smooth idle and economy at low throttle.

Thank you both. I was aware of cam and crank sensor correlation, but hadn't come across the term Sync Cam before. 

Most of the stuff I work with is heavy diesel that already runs with the OEM control, so don't go down the road of wasted spark, dual injection etc. 

Every day's a school day on here and I'm always happy to learn. 👍
