Capri Sport = Useless tossers

Sorry for coming on a bit strong but I'm really really pissed off with them.

 

First they send the wrong ARB bushes - 22mm instead of 19mm, fair enough one mistake is ok. But at this point the neglect to mention their master cylinder isn't a direct fit and that they sell an item to make it a direct fit.

 

Phone them to sort out the non fitting master cylinder and they suggest a solution but again, neglect to mention the parts they sell.

 

Phone them for a third time (last monday) to order more ARB bushes as I don't have time to return the wrong ones as I'm desperate to get the car back on the road. They don't have the ones I need in stock so sell me a 2.8i 24mm ARB to go with the new bushes. This time they mention their master cylinder fitting solution so I order that as well and check everything is in stock and I'll have it by the weekend.

 

 

Thursday arrives and no delivery so I give them a ring and discover they're busy as they have decorators in so I won't get the parts till monday. :banghead: :banghead:

 

Well the parts arrived today (tuesday) and they've sent me a 24mm ARB and 22mm bushes. To say I am pissed off is an understatement.

 

So my car has now been off the road for 3 weeks because they're so shit. I've built 2 kit cars now and never had any problems like this with any other supplier or parts not fitting as advertised. Totally unnaceptable, even if it is a company run by volunteers. Not to mention they never answer their phones or phone you back if you leave a message.

 

Their parts are good quality, but IMHO overpriced. I ordered discs and pads from rally design at a lot less than caprisports advertised price. Their caliper relocation brackets are £50 (I bought some for my kit car for £16 from someone else). They're not even that well designed as you have to drill the hub, simply reversing the bolt and having a plain hole in the bracket would solve this. Plus, they have the cheek to charge £14 a year membership.

 

My advice would be to stay away

Everything except the brake brackets is available elsewhere, cheaper with good customer service. The brake brackets are piss easy to make anyway, if I had known I would have just made a template myself and got them lazer cut.

 

It isn't any easier having everything under one roof if they never send you what you want or answer the phone

I haven't dealt with them. The first thing that put me off I think was the obvious arrogance on the website and then I heard a few bad stories, I have heard good stories too though, so don't shoot me!

...heard loads of bad reports about them....could mention loads....wish I had known you were doing this as I did a DIY 280 kit on the front of mine and didn't go to them for anything.......hope you didn't get the deflex poly bushes from them as they are shit....

i have used G.S.ESCORTS many times ordereding things from a wheel nut to a ful wheel and never had any problems myself.

 

they are definately on my high recommend list and i would use them again!

It's different for different people I suppose. If you read some of the pricelists for somethings its enough to make you laugh.

 

For instance I am willing to bet that our black capri is faster, will out handle and out brake many 24v converted ones, best of all Capri Sport quote in excess of £2000 to do it. I should think ours in total cost no more than a £1000.

 

There's a lesson to be learn't people, you drive old fords which have an amazing tuning and modification potential so be careful don't get ripped off.

 

This is a tip for everyone and I think most will agree but just because you look through magazines and websites and see nice, shiney and expensive things like brake kits for example don't be fooled. Like I said about being ripped off, look around, do some research and some trial and error. You will be pleasantly surprised what you will find, and even better, the prices you can find

Thats why I only ordered the brackets, mastercylinder and polybushes from them as I didn't have time to make my own kit using trial and error (as i would normaly). The said everything they supplied would be a direct fit so I assumed I could get the whole lot done in 2 or 3 days but its been off the road 3 weeks now.

Fronts are renault van discs (machined and modified for ford fitment) and calipers, drilled and grooved and the rears are fiesta discs with renault rear calipers. All the brackets were DIY. The calipers are only 2 piston jobbies but believe me, they are BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG

 

Not too sure on the exact size but they are bigger than 300mm.

 

 

It stops better than anything I know and the best thing is it cost nothing but the pads. You just need to look around

No worries mate. The only problem is you can't fit anything smaller than 16" wheels. I find the best thing to do is look outside the ford parts bin, as good as it is it can be restrictive.

Also the rare gearboxes that Capri Sport sell for £450 are the same as what we've fitted to the capri, except ours cost £75
