Mk 1 Cortina owner

Hi thanks for accepting me, my name is Myles, I have a mk1 cortina super,which I have fitted a 3.54 diff in. The diff gets quite hot after normal driving, any thoughts on this.

Preload between the crown and pinion gears is too tight!

Bit obvious  , but what the oil level like.

Or as above , has it been recently  rebuilt ?

Oil level is correct, Hypoid 80.90.

Not a recent rebuild. But don't know the history of it.

Diffs do run hot, is it noisy ?

How hot is hot ?

You would need to check like for like temps with a infra-red  thermometer. 

Could be it's normal🤔

Well you can just about hold your hand on it, it's not noisy at all, don't have access to a infra-red thermometer, I may take it out and put 3.89 back, see how hot it gets. Thanks for the reply. Myles.

I'd say that's ok then, they do get hot, but if it's not noisy, I don't think I'd be too worried, if it was mine
