Advice needed re a dvla issue potentially a headache

Hi folks seeking some info

purchased an imported Maltese mk1 escort 1100L and it would appear to me it’s been wrongly U.K. registered with the DVLA. And I’ve only just noticed this! I’m guessing the importer registered a few cars at once and there was a mix  up or he wasn’t thinking straight as he was ill.
It’s a very early escort down as a 1970 H four door.
When it’s definitely a 2 door 1968 early 69  G? It has the square loom plugs in the bulkhead,not the circular, it also has sticking out fuel filler, lock in driver door bonnet release in grill. 
the G or H plate thing isn’t a massive concern. However it being down as a four door when it’s definitely a two door which the vin confirms does concern me. I don’t want hassle off the plod or dvla.
I can’t even go to the gentleman who imported it as I found out he died not long after the car was registered. 
 

whats the best course of action ?

Unfortunately not just a bill of sale and what’s on the Vin. Hence I think I may have gave myself a real headache

Yeah it’s definitely original factory welds holding the rear quarters on it most definitely hasn’t ever been a for door. The front pans have definitely been replaced as has the tunnel. Look to be out of an auto but that’s the only stuff I’ve seen having had a really good poke about the shell.
