Wanterd - Mk2 Escort Boot lock locating washer

Just had the boot painted and then they put the boot lock back in they lost the slightly domed grab washer that helps locate the central shaft of at the back. Many people dont bother with it but because i have the original lock still its become a bit sloppy and that washer helped the lock not wobble as much when you turned the key. Anyone have a spare or two would be ever so grateful. Open to being ripped off with RS tax even though its a regular Escort part 😃.

It does look similar to one use on Mk1 Escort door locks but I have no idea if they are the same diameter as I have been unable to compare.

You can get these almost anymore, not genuine Ford ofcourse. Measure the shaft dia then google "starlock ring" plus the diameter. About 10p each.

I just did the rounds to all the specialized bolt places in my area for one for a stainless bolt for a tail light and I have never seen them for sale in my life only attached to boot locks!

Its all in the name! Once you gave me that they came up in droves. Interesting that most are in Germany. It must have had its origins there or is more widely used there. This is excellent thanks!

Would you say the shaft is 6mm? Now that is back in the lid its difficult to determine its diameter as its tapered at the end that sicks out

Shaft must be 6 mm or maybe 1/4" .

Ahhhh the thing with the rear light bolts is that there are a couple of different backings and not all use hex head type bolts. There are some that have one hex for the short one but the long one has a rounded head and a hex nut that screws in to a locating seat at the back. Thats the one thats harder to get replacements for.

The hole in the backing for that special bolt is just 4 mm. Drill it out to 6 mm (carefully) and fit a 6 mm Allen bolt plus an M6 nut at the back of the cluster. Photo is of a black Allen bolt but you can get SS ones. Job done! Unless ofcourse you cannot sleep at night because you have an un-original and modified part on your car. 😲

Thats exactly what I did. I was buying 35mm stainless Allen bolts which was the reason I was touring the nut and bolt shops. Trouble was the first two only had ones that werent fully threaded only the first 24mm which was needed for the hex nut to be secured on the back.

I was always curious when they changed the backs to include two hex bolts?

Looked into that some time ago as I wondered about it too. The parts book and also the latest microfiche only list one version for the rear lights. But I noticed that only Altissimo right hand side rear lights had that odd bolt arrangement.

I have only ever seen it on the right side too. I just thought it was because the pairs I had were mismatched but it has me wondering if maybe it is just a limited run of right hand side ones. I always though that it was a country of manufacture specific thing though.
