paulfluke Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Got a bit pissed off today when i discovered my old mk 1 escy for sale on an irish site. Whats wrong wit that i hear you say ,doesn't the new owner have the right to sell it on? Yes he does is the answer but when buying it off me the guy only phoned me from killarney and bought it over the phone guarenteeing me he'd give me what i was asking to the full and would i consider it sold. I did. Then he asked me to drop the car to him and he'd pay my expenses etc.. So when i got there he had a look round the car and started to tell me it wasn't as described, i disputed this and told himi described all the bad bits to which he said that i must have been talkin to some one else in the garage! To cut a long story short i ( now regretably) gave him the car cheaper than expected and waved my travelling expenses ( which he said he never agreed to!) .I should have put the damn car on the trailor and made my way home only out of pocket a journey. Now the car is for sale on the site for 2K euro more than what he paid for it and i'm a little miffed at myself and just a little gutted too.
Cookie Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Gutted for you mate, thats the prob with this ebay malarky full of 'full of sh*t' Apple Pies, he obviousley was never gonna pay your price and was banking on you not wanting to waste a journey I have bought and sold dozens and dozens of cars on ebay and rule one as a seller- DO NOT MOVE A MUSCLE UNTIL CASH IS IN YOUR HAND! was caught out once by some tinker lol and cost me listing, fees, diesel to deliver and a day of my time, From then on I would only deliver a car with a 10% deposit on value of car plus All delivery costs, and would not even load car untill the money was recieved and cleared! never had a problem then. we all live and learn mate, just put it down to experience and you will know next time

Why don't you phone up asking him to bring it to the nearest ferry port to view it so if you like it you can purchase and drive home. Then obviously not turn up I had an Irish guy try it on with a car I sold, ringing and ringing asking lots of questions by phone and email, cancelled the first trip over when I'd cancelled my own plans to meet him!! Only the boot was on the other foot this time, when he eventually came over, he was determined to pay less than the asking price and kept haggling through the test drive. When he'd finished driving I took him back to the airport and told him the price had gone up £100 for all the time wasting, and to make his choice. He paid up and left with a look of thunder on his face.
