looking to upgrade my stater motor to a high torque jobbie from ratsport

i have a 1700 crossflow with a fair amount of performance parts etc

can anyone tell me what type of stater motor i need?

i rang ratsport and they asked whether it was a pre-engage or inertia and whether its 9 or 10 tooth

if anyone knows PLEASE HELP ME!

if not i guess ill just have 2 take it off and find out, but thats a bit of a hassle seeing as i have 2 drive 50 odd miles to the garage and back everytime i need work doing!

I got steve at S&C next door to retro motorsport to do mine. I had a brise one and it wasnt meshing properly. Turned out that it needed 11 teeth on the pinion to mesh correctly

as Andy says, go to S&C in Harlow. A1 service and fitted me a decent starter that acually works!

:thumbsup: You must be pleased! :ykt:

Did I read there was a mesh issue on yours too somewhere?

yeah, the pinion wasnt coming out far enough to the flywheel, and only running about 4mm of the actual teeth. Joke!

Also, he said that all these aftermarket starters are generic items, so arent specifically made to fit x-flows/pintos as they are japanese. :(

i'll get a pic of mine when i get home

Actually mine arent generic or Japanese. They're built to order by me in London! Which is why we would want to know:

a) what unit you have fitted already as if this just died of old age or you want to upgrade then a like for like should work.

B) If you dont have one already fitted or it doesnt mesh properly or some other problem then we would need to know number of teeth on flywheel and other details etc.

Sometimes we miss orders by making the customer check, but I'd rather miss a sale than get complaints for supplying the wrong unit!
