  1. Do you mean this bit?
  2. If you ever need a hand, give us a shout
  3. There are different ways to attack this, boils down to preference I guess. Personally I try to keep as much of the original arch as possible rather than replace the whole thing and butt weld with a gap, only thing is you can only do this by welding small bits at a time, literally just a load of tack welds, if you try to weld too much in one go it distorts like crazy so do a tack then move somewhere else while it cools, eventually you will fill all the gaps in. Also when you get a new arch they are quite wide, the wider you leave it ( in the direction of the arrow in pic below) it the harder it is to blend in to the body work so again replace as small a bit as you can. I recently read an old Practical Classics article about replacing arches and it suggested leaving the new arch big and 'tucking' it under where it joins the body work. I haven't tried this but I can see how it would make it better to weld as you have extra metal to weld to. The only problem I could see is that you could end up with a water trap on the inside of your arch. The other thing to bear in mind is if you have to repair the inner arch as well, this may dictate how much of the outer arch you have to remove for access. I always cut out the rot from both inner and outer arch, repair the outer arch first, then the inner one, but I see others do the inner arch first then the outer, again down to preference I guess. Anyway, hope this made sense!
  4. I bought a 2 door escort in 1993 for £150, used it for a year until the MOT ran out and sold it for £50! The next time I saw it was in the local scrap yard
  5. That's a bummer, I feel for you, but hopefully not too bad, pretty much anything is fixable these days if you're determined and it sounds like you are. Like you say there could be some extra funds for other stuff, not much help to you now but every cloud and all that
  6. I have no idea but I would say the one on the far right looks better, but would guess that the far left is the genuine one?
  7. Shame yr selling it Bud, looks like you've done most of the hard work, I was looking forward to seeing this bombing around the island!
  8. Hi, welcome, I live on the Island too, look forward to seeing you out and about. Did you know there is an IOW Classic Ford Cub? We have a Retards Club page, someone in the club may be able to help with the bits you need.
  9. Is it worth that? Sounds a bit ambitious, maybe its a typo and he meant £35!
  10. Totally agree with you Jamie956, there's plenty of shows that cater for newer Fords, organisers should keep this show for proper classics
  11. Hi Welcome Love the van, I think Broadstripes would look good. Do you mind me asking what colour Blue it is, its similar to what I would like to paint my Capri but not sure what it is.
  12. :-DLooks like you did a nice job restoring it, hope you track it down
  13. Thanks for the info.
  14. Came from a 2.0 petrol.
  15. Hi, I have a type 9, 5 speed gearbox that came from a P100. Does anyone know if it differs from the ones you find in Capri's/ Sierra's etc? I know the engines were different but not sure about gearboxes.
  16. Yeah, but it will need a lot of work, it was bad 10 years ago when I bought it and its been outside on my drive ever since! It does however have a perfect red vinyl interior (GT type seats) and cos it's an XL it has 6 Dial dash. It's Pearl Grey/Gun metal which looks goos with the Interior.
  17. Sorry, pic was nicked from t'internet!
  18. Hi all, been on here a little but not had time to post yet so thought I would say Hello. I'm on the Isle Of Wight and currently own 3 classic Fords, unfortunately they are all projects but I'm hoping to change that and get one road worthy by the summer! The latest one and the one I'm currently working on is a 1984 2.0S Capri, was originally intended as a quick fix up and drive while I was working on my other one, however I unearthed a few horrors while getting through its Mot, so decided to spend a bit more time on it and it spiralled from there. I also have a Mk 1 Escort, 2 door, 1300 super in Blue Mink. Last but not least I have a Mk1 4 door that i bought many years ago for spares, and although its pretty rough structurally its now worth saving. Any way got heaps of inspiration from the resto threads on here so look forward to getting out and about when the warm weather arrives!
