I thought the same actually. Even though I used 2" lowering blocks, the car doesn't seem to sit any lower. I was pleasantly surprised how cheap the components were.

If anyone asked me how my car handled, I would say like a 2cv. It seemed to roll a lot and was very spongy. I thought it strange for an RS, but it is 40 years old. I bought single leaf springs with 2" lowering blocks and 2" lowering springs for the front as it already had uprated suspension. On Wednesday I finally got round to putting it on. I found out why the car was behaving the way it was, the top smaller spring on each leaf had cracked. Turning the nut saw the spring split completely in half on both of them. After changing the springs the car now sits flat round the corners and is so much more fun. Sideways officer. . .not me!

I could do I suppose, I will have to look into it. Yes my headrests are Brown. Being vinyl would paint stick? I saw a pair at Santa Pod for £140 but retrimming and new headrests will cost a few quid.

When I bought my car it had grey cloth fishnet recaros. The guy I bought it from had some brown beta clothed ones that were a bit worse for wear which I also bought. I have since had the bad bits re-trimmed and have swapped them with the grey ones. The only problem is, my car has black back seats, door cards, head lining and carpet. They don't look too bad but I am wondering if anyone has a pair trimmed in black cloth that would want to swap?

I haven't booked it yet, but I will definitely be going to that one. See you there.

Totally agree. For the amount of land there is there I'm sure they could have put in another entrance/exit onto another road. If you registered your car it was free to get in including passengers. Probably the only car show that's free.

I thought I would treat my car to some black and silver plates while I was at SantaPod and I think they look the nuts on a black car.

I went to a local car show at Barleylands in Essex on sunday. There was a proper mix of cars, old, new, supercars, vans, American, bikes and a Zakspeed Rothmans liveried mk2. Wow, what a car. The flow of traffic getting in in the morning and out at the end of the day was pretty shambolic though. Only one entry/exit with hundreds of cars trying to get out in single file. Shame, spoiled a good day. My car started fine when I went to leave, but due to the poor flow of traffic, it was gridlocked. Nothing was moving so I thought I might as well turn the engine off. When it was time to move, I turned the key . . . . . nothing. My mate and I looked at each other and said are you kidding me! I popped the bonnet and checked all the ignition leads and battery leads but couldn't see anything. I got a push from a couple of guys who came over to see what was wrong and it started with little run up. My mate said don't stall it whatever you do, so what did I do . . .you guessed it! Tried to start it again and still nothing. One of the marshalls came over and said I couldn't bump it anymore because there were too many people around and I would have to wait for the AA. Earlier in the day I was talking to some guys who had mk1 escorts and one of them pulled up and came over to help. He had a jump starter pack. It did nothing! He thought it can't be the battery but I didn't think about the starter motor. He got under the car and low and behold a wire had come off. It was a spade end connector, so a quick squeeze and back on it went. Bingo she fired up first time. What a twonk! It's a horrible feeling when your car won't start, but all part of the fun owning an OSF. Still, it was entertaining the crowds. People were taking pictures and coming over for a chat. A good day, and I got to meet some mk1 owners who were great guys. Thanks to them for saving the day.

The Anglia was pretty special as well, very different. The paintwork was awesome as was the matching interior. It was in the show and shine category, but I don't know if it won.

This was my favourite car/van of the day. It was a great day, and good to see all the members cars in the flesh. Who saw the yellow mk1 run a 9.7? That is one quick car

It's been the other way round for me. Last week I ordered a Lumenition ignition kit and was told it was out of stock, and I got it the next day!

I thought seeing as my drive to Santa pod for the Ford show is just under 2 hours I better sort out the leaking rocker cover gasket and while i'm at it replace the carburettor gasket for peace of mind. There was also a split breather pipe. While the rocker cover was off with a mirror I looked at the end of the cam, and low and behold, it's a piper 285! Result. If the cam has been done, i'm now wondering what else has been done. That will have to wait for now. Before I go I also have braided Goodridge classic brake hoses and a lumenition electronic ignition kit to fit. My car has copper hoses at the front???, so they just have to go.

It was registered on 1/11/77. If yours was registered in March 78, why not send your V5 off and give it a try. They can only say no. If they do i'm sure they will tell you when you can re-apply
