I have got a Mark 1 Escort 2 door deluxe which is very original in styling ,1600 engine(originally 1100) few mods like 5-speed and brakes lowered but generally standard one I am finding it now it seems like this is something that people view in shows and clubs that is almost passed over in enthusiasm for those who have now gone down the road of modification in extreme engines and drivetrains. maybe is the younger generation coming in and I'm an old fart that kind of looks at this as the only high value Motors that retain the original aspect of the design for example rs mexico twin cam and the Lower End seems not to be exempt from total notification and original engine disposal. I can't see any 2 door deluxes about as now all seem to be mexico lookalikes, must make it as rare as a twin cam! But it seems that you are looking at a dying breed of common cars, The mods I have done basically took it to a modifield in the 70s feel, now the mods on show are wildly different. Are we ever going to be leaning on to extreme power plants or will standard ever be viewed as cool again?

guys here is a question that has got me puzzled, a mate has found a genuine mexico in scotland a few years back and has painstakingly restored to a very high standard. and kept it so original. now he has found that the dizzy which was in a box is actually a pinto one, the original is probably long gone. now i have a lot of old dizzys but with so many types of the motorcraft made i cant tell him which is the right one.1100? 1300?1600? i use an aldon but he insists on the correct one does anyone know what advance spring colour or id number they were ? or even a web site with reference on it, only thing i can find is its a gt and originally referred to as green in haynes ,but not green advance springs Quote Edit

I had three of these, I found a lotus Web page with ratios in and number of teeth but only lotus ratio's, so as it was a Tina box I dug out some old Haynes manuals .two of mine were 1500gt boxes close ratio's, (1500gt was faster to 60 than 1600 gt) the other was mk2 Tina 1600 ratios with an odd first gear ,I sold them on ebay all three for 850! I had them in a pile at the back of my shed for 12 years! Interestingly some ( this will stir up some people ) mainly early were fitted to twinks with hydraulic slave units. Yup very sad,I'm paranoid about even talking about mine on the net,I used to work on them with the garage door open and chat to any interested passer by,now I check following cars by diverting my route home, I then used to shut my doors in the shed, and meet most buyers of stuff in local places. Maybe daft but scrap hunting travellers are the worst as they don't knock or call ,they just try to open the door and ask for cats or batteries, whilst unashamedly scanning my stuff, so now not just shutting my door when in ,I now lock it too when I'm in there. I do break out sometimes dash out and skiddadle in after a thrash , but I have thought should I sell them, but what would you do for fun? Whilst sorting stuff out in the workshop, I found a carb that looks and functionsounds exactly like a three litre DGAS . But it has two 34 mm chokes not 38 mm and is stamped 34 DGAS BA. can't find any info on the net, would love to find out what it was on, and got a hankering to just stick it on something tho try it! It fits straight on to pinto and a crossflow manifold. Would original engine have similar capacity /flow? ,I can find nothing Would appreciate some help, it just appearseems to be a 38 DGAS until you see the chokes! Herb

I was asked by a mate for a 3 litre essex, got a few so I said OK He was planning to pick it up this week so last night I had a few hours free so I set about checking them to select one for him. I was had engines that I bought previously which allegedly were 3.1 litre , oh yes we've all bought these before every engine is a 3.1 or a 2.1 monster with meteoric acceleration! so I had a look the engine turned out to be.... would you believe a 3.1 litre with huge inlet valves 45 millimetre and flowed heads and manifold the next engine turned out to be 3.1 litre 41 mm inlets with nice heads 41mm inlets and mild porting . eventually I got to the third engine and I took off the head and found a standard but good 3 litre there's no 3 guesses for which one I will be selling I only checked as I had sold a pinto to a mate that WAS a 2.1 Anyone else found any such treasures?

Hey vista,do speedy fix rev counters as got a twink set but rev counter is very erratic an sometimes reads double,as you know I am not hot on electrical gubbins . I know your van had stuff done Mike
