  1. Thats what I thought, but all these guys above seem to have painted their machined faces. Although I'm not keen on the look, it looks better than it would if you don't paint it and it goes all rusty. Does the paint affect the seal on the inlet/exhaust manifolds and waterpump?
  2. Two questions about making Pintos look pretty:): 1) I've just cleaned up an inlet manifold so its nice and shiny. How do I keep it that way? Just keep cleaning it? Laquer it? Or do I have to Paint it? 2) I've painted the engine block, and will be painting the spark plug hole bits in the head. But what about the machined surfaces? Can I paint them too? If so do I need to apply the paint after the bits are on it, e.g. water pump, inlet/exhaust manifolds? Or should I just leave it bare? Or laquer it? Cheers -Chris
  3. I would have thought the best way to do this would be to use the original tank and have a swirlpot feeding a high pressure pump. Also why are you using a 2.8 injection engine? I'm really not a fan of the K-tronic injection system. I would strongly recommend you get a 2.9 12V engine from a Granada, or 24V from a Granada Cosworth. That way you get EFI Alternatively put a carb manifold from a 2.8 Granada mk2 and a 38DGAS on the 2.8 engine to make your life much easier.
  4. Keep it simple. Ford Diamond White with Blue Cobra Stripes
  5. If you can't get any, here's some pics of how I fabricated some repair sections:
  6. Hey, When you get the rebuild kit they'll give you an exploded diagram with it. Its really scary how many bits there are! Don't let it put you off though. Have a look here http://www.fordcaprilaser.co.uk/carburettor_overhaul.htm Thats a step by step guide to overhauling the carb with a kit. Just take it step by step and its easy. Good luck.

  8. Got my new block soaking in degreaser just now. One last question I see you havent painted the machined faces, like around the water pump. How do you stop them going all rusty? Laquer? Cheers
  9. From the lack of reply from RetroFord magazine I can only assume they don't actually read this forum?
  10. Hi, Can anyone tell me what sort of cam shaft this is? It's currently in a 2.0 Pinto head but it is believed to be high torque: On one side of the cam in line with the ford logo is the number H28 and opposite H28 is the number 33A80. If anyone can help me find the exact specs of this cam that would be great. Thanks -Chris
  11. Nice one. Much appreciated
  12. Thats a beautiful engine! I'm rebuilding one at the moment. Could you tell me where I can get new exhaust studs and the nuts thats used on them? The last ones I got from burton power aren't shiney like that. And where do you get those nice coloured bolts holding the thermostat housing on? And is the black paint smootherite too? Cheers
  13. Here you go: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300234828007&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:VRI Like I said, it will make a hell of a difference. The plastic top ones are pants.
  14. Yo, There's 2 types of pinto Capri radiator. There is the 2 core metal top and the 1 core plastic top. If you have a plastic top rad then this is your problem. On a tuned engine or on a hot day they just can't keep the engine cool enough. I had a plastic top and it boiled over every day. Got a new metal top rad for £50 and its never gone above half way since, even on the track.
  15. This is my best one so far. Going to do another one in the same style when I finish the 24V:
  16. I saw a full set of lovres for a Capri go on ebay.co.uk for £180. Then I headed over to ebay.de and picked up a set for £50. Its a bit of effort but searching on ebay.de will get you certain items much cheaper than they can be had in the UK. Also, the louvres were much more popular in Germany back in the day I believe.
  17. A few... My passport and wallet was stolen. I lost a bumper end cap on the way. One of my tyres bulged and I had to fit the spare, but other than that it was all good.
  18. Yeah, would love to see some pics! How many of you are going next year?
  19. It wasn't cheap. The Fuel, Road Tolls, Ferry, Channel Tunnel and Accomodation came to £760 each Then we had spending money for food and drinks on top.
  20. Well, the trip was a success. Here's the highlites: Some more pics over at the Laser Page: http://www.network54.com/Forum/577323/thread/1207062231/European+Road+Trip+2008 Anyone want to come next year?
  21. Nooooooooooo!!! Don't do it! Too many Grannies have been broken. Restore the Granada
  22. Dear RetroFord Team, I enjoyed reading your article this month about The Laser Page. I have been a long time user of that site and found the information on there very useful. However, I am upset that you did not mention the Laser Page forums. The Laser Page Forums can be accessed by clicking the "Rant and Rave" or "Q&A" Links on the Laser Page. The Q&A secton has been going now for 8 years, which surely must make it the longest running internet forum for a retro ford. Further more, as the forums are searchable it means you have access to 8 years worth of technical expertise, something that no other site offers. Most of the people who use the Laser Page now, rarely need to refer to Mark's information and use the Laser Page primarily for its forums. To write about the laser page without mentioning the forum is like writing about OldSkoolFord without mentioning these forums here. Would it be possible for you to print a little addition next month informing people about the forums too, as it would be good to get some new blood on there. Cheers -Chris Rant and Rave: http://www.network54.com/Forum/577323/ Q&A: http://www.network54.com/Forum/67242/
  23. My lot (4 Capris) were all pretty trouble free. I wasn't really expecting any problems though, after all whats a 180 mile round trip to a car with 212,000 on the clock Only scary bit was when the car at the back radio'ed the rest of us to say something had fallen off his car! We all pulled up and saw him in the distance running back to the round about expecting him to come back with a caliper or something in his hand, but when he got back on the CB he said it was just a massive clump of earth that must have got lodged somewhere trying to get out of the mud bath that was the camping field!
  24. I'm going with 3 cars from East Berks Capri Club. My mission is not to get as rat arsed as last year and end up trying to get everyone doing mexican waves.
