Me too, towed mine all the way to Shakey, having driven it into the garage the night before fine, reversed it out fine, got to Shakey, Fooked box!!
The gears spin on the main shaft, but the lay shaft isn't spinning so no oil is getting splashed over the moving parts. James Harris, same thing. We remove our props now which is a real shag......
Of couse the lower the diff ratio the faster the prop spins in the un-lubricated gears at any given tow speed.
Appart from that they're good!

I think you will find that it is a grey issue with your insurance cover, ie you wont be covered.
In europe they are banned, especially in France, a friend of mine who has a Fiesta that he tows behind his Motorhome, & has done for years with a A frame was done, & the French Gendarmerie, was sympathetic & let him carry on. Which is unusual for the french law enforcers.!!
He now has a new frame which has a braking system on it, which is acceptable.
