  1. Ok, dumb question first. Burnouts. Over the years I have seen many burnouts, but never managed to do one myself, except once and it was pretty pathetic, so not really worth mentioning I remember something called a Lineloc or similar which locked up the front wheels and left the backs free, my question is this, does every car (even at RMYB events) have a Lineloc (or just crap rear brakes) and if they don't have a lineloc how da fook do they do it? .... or am I missing something fundamental? Now the rant: I've been out in me Pop doing stuff this morning and had lots of comments ranging from "is it Aircooled?" to "Nice motor, whats the 0-60 time" Then on the way home some fat biatch in a frikkin' old Astra had the audacity to point and laugh, How dare she? Especially riding around in a frikkin' Astra (which was lopsided cause she was such a fat swamp donkey!) Lord save us from the unappreciative! On the + side today I've been wondering what to do about my rattly Jag IRS and then I remembered there was an independent Jag Specialist in the next town, and when I went to see him I struck gold, his Dad who is now retired, specialised in tuning, with the Rover V8 being one of his specialities, and he could apparently, according to son, be coaxed out of retirement cos he's bored shitless Roll on next years OSF Drags
  2. Thanks for that link m8! The yanks don't know how lucky they are, $159.00 for a Torq Thrust??!! Defo going with AR Wheels of some sort, wether imported or bought here. Thanks for all the nice comments on my Pop
  3. Put me down for a sticker too!
  4. We all come back sooner or later, I was in the wilderness for 20 years! . Best thing I've done for a long time, getting myself an Old OSF. I didn't know you when you were here before but welcome back anyway, the plans for your Mk1 sound great! All the best with it!
  5. Pics: http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=55175
  6. A fitting tribute to the man who in many peoples eyes was THE Rally Driver! Not easy to make into a sticker though unless a printed one, but a nice thought nonetheless.
  7. Blimey, I've been fettling with the Pop today and I was looking at my rear wheels and thinking to myself "those are monsters", they look bigger than 7x15's" so I whipped out my tape measure and I wasn't wrong the bloody things are 15x12's!!! I've sourced some American Racing FiveSpokes now so if anyone wants some monster Appliance Five Spokes with Kelly Supercharger Tyres they will shortly be available or if no-one is interested I'll ebay 'em. Propshaft is going off to baileymorris next week, it's got a bloomin' great glob of weld on one end, so my guess is, as someone else suggested, that it has been welded by a chimp and is way out of balance, which is why the car vibarates like fook permanently! Fixed the wayward window too, so I no longer look like I've been driving a ragtop when I get home
  8. Burns, I just noticed that your avatar swings her tassles in time to the music on my vid
  9. tsk, tsk. The music is actually Swinging Safari by Burt Kaemphert (or however you spell it). It's also the tune that ING bank use in thier TV Commercials. + it's probably been used in loads of other places too. Cheesy but cool
  10. My dad has been busy converting old 8mm cine films to DVD, and the other day he came across some footage of the East African Safari Rally from around 1969-1970, needless to say it featured more than one bubble arched Escort Mk1. He gave me a copy which I've converted into a YouTube Movie, I cut all the old poogeus and datsuns (as they we're called then) out and just left the Fords in. You can see it here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lcKO_uGJfqc complete with cheesy "safari music"
  11. How many more people can we get to use an American Graffiti Avatar?
  12. The problem is that they don't make a skinny AR 5 Spoke 7x15 is the skinniest, i.e not very skinny. Plans? Well the Rover V8 may go, or may not, it seems it needs new cam and followers and the SU's are a bit wheezy too, the interior is going to go pseudo race (ie race styled but not to spartan as it's almost a daily driver) It's cosmetics really other than that. In an ideal world, eg money no object, I'd like a tuned cossie and box with live rear axle instead of jag irs...maybe one day....
  13. Just found a company on the net, that can supply brand new old style wheels: http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/default.asp They do the aaaaaccccceeeee American Racing RS200 Five spokes, which IMHO are the ultimate retro alloy (at least for rods)
  14. Thought so, problem is the back ones look aokay in the picture but they are a bit foobar to be honest! You can't wheels rechromed can ya?
  15. Sorry to hear of your loss Here's the only details availbale on the car: The enquiry is complete The vehicle details for AJX 391V are: Date of Liability 01 11 2002 Date of First Registration 18 01 1980 Year of Manufacture 1980 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1599CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour SILVER Vehicle Type Approval null The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry. Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle 6 Months Rate £99.00 12 Months Rate £180.00 Hope this helps
  16. Now I'm confused. You say "slots are done to death" then "get some rear wheels to match the fronts" which are slots
  17. Well I've had the Pop for 5 days and today is the first chance I've had to take a proper look and get the squished flies etc (there were some feathers in the grille too??!! ) off the front. It's not too bad but needs some serious reworking in the interior, it seems like whoever built it originally, got fed up after he'd done the mechanics and just threw the interior together in about 20 minutes. It's functional alright, but could do with a bit of fettling. I have the ubiquitous Rover V8 oil leak of course and a leak also from the Jag IRS and I think that the BG35 Auto box is a bit shagged out and could do with replacement. I was going to change the colour but now it's clean I quite like the bright red, although I don't know exactly what red it is, which is a shame. The fuel filler is a pain in the ass as a funnel is needed to fill up everytime, so that's gonna get replaced with a Jag Cap and Pop Browns Filler Neck. I'm also gonna bring the boot back as some plonker welded it shut!!? Matching wheels are also a must so if you know of anyone with a pair of 7x15 American racing 5 Spokes (Jag/Chevy pattern).....might just go with white steels on the front for that 60's racer look. Anyway here's the pics. I'm going to set up a page on my site to chart the "project" as changes/mods are carrried out.
  18. Got laughed at yesterday...I was well p****d off 'til I realised what he was driving...and then just quietly chuckled to myself, the guy was driving a fooking Punto! Prat!
  19. Wish I could mate, but last year I did over 12,000 miles just going to shows etc. Nothing would please me more than a small block 350 under the hood, but it's just not an option at the moment
  20. Fook!! Just seen prices of Cossie Lumps on Ebay!! Think I'll go with Pinto or Zetec.
  21. Not unlimited funds but a bit, it's taken 18 years to get the pop, so another few months etc of saving and doing bits will be okay..and it's got to be right...after all this time
  22. I was thinking along the same lines Mossy, but have a hankering for a Cossie of some description, but also have to be realistic. I want as much "Ford" in the car as possible. I'm even thinking of junking the Jag IRS in favour of a live rear axle...possibly shortened Mustang or similar
  23. Ok, now don't get me wrong, I'm lovin the Pop, but truth be told, the old Rover V8 isn't really up to the job, my mates Renault Clio Sport makes it look like it's standing still However I've decided that my original plan of putting a small block ford in there instead is probably a tad over ambitious, so my question is this: For reliability and relatively reasonable petrol consumption (I'm not expecting 50 to the Gallon mind) what would your recommendations be. It seems that the insurance cost isn't much different between a 1600 Crossflow and a Supercharged Nitrous Guzzling Big Block so that's not a consideration. IMHO the choices are Crossflow, Pinto, Cossie or Zetec. I want speed but reasonable MPG to as I go to a lot of shows as you know (no more Jap Import ones though ) So what do you "experts" advise then (oh and before you ask the Rover V8 is already spoken for sorry) Pics on Saturday
  24. I spotted a young couple today by my Pop in my works car park, he was taking a photo of her standing by my car, I was quite chuffed. Also got some young girl taking a sly pic on her mobile from the back of her dads Mondeo .... Lets hope the young un's see the chav mobiles for what they really are before it's too late...loved reading these experiences though guys n girls.
