I got a Shell Station just up the road and use V-power in both my cars, the guy who built my engine said to use hight octane in it so thats what i use. 102.9p - 104.9p make it a bit expencive now days tho...

I found cancelling it then restarting it in the spring ended up costing me more money as they give you next to nothing back after all the charges etc as my insurance isn’t to bad I just leave it even if isn’t taxed, but also you do get some nice winter days and you mite want to take it for a drive so… When I was doing work on my car I used Footman James off road cover thing that was only like £25-50 just in case of theft or fire.

Just finished working, gonna try and pump the tyres up and get it running. Running out of time!!! Going to take me an hour or so to drive to the meeting place and all, crusing at 70. I got to have a play with mine if I want to make it later. Currently OSF tyre is flat and haven’t used it for over a week… I can leave it unused for ages and the tyre holds pressure then sometimes goes down after a few days, weird!

I got mixed comments when I got my Mk1 at 16 (some 4 years ago now)... some people couldn’t understand why I wanted a car so old, and assumed as it was old it was cheap! Others thought it was cool having an old Ford and also new it was RWD, which they could only dream of with 1st car insurance prices (not many cheap to insure RWD’s). Also my insurance was half what they were paying, and the old 1300GT engine was more than a match for there modern day 1.1’s and 1.3’s! But there is plenty of young people that are like wow it’s a old Escort, but they seem to all want RWD jap stuff not old Ford RWD stuff… Only problem I found with my Mk1 was it was working out expensive to run and wasn’t really that useable (motorways and couldnt just leave it parked up in places), and I knew that I would end up with body work issues later on using it in all weathers. So I ended up getting myself a Mk2 golf GTi for everyday use and also I wanted to put a 1600 in the mk1 so needed another car anyway. I then picked me self up a 1.9 205GTi and sold the golf, but even though they’re 80’s hot hatches I still think they are ‘cool’ and sort of ‘retro’ and not a saxo clio etc but I have sort of fallen into the boy racer world of cars now after getting a Focus RS but then again it is a pure RS decedent of the original Escort RS’s… I blame the parents and there upbringing for them not wanting something cool and old skool…should have been beaten into them from a young age, like me lol!

Thanks for the info guys! I will have a better look at the 'Cam covers' in future Just something I have been wondering about for a while.

As 'turbo' is like indented if you machined it off wouldn’t that leave it a different height to DOHC 16V if you know what I mean. Cos that’s what I thought like when you machine ‘Burton’ off a x/flow rocker cover leaving it flat.

I have seen a few N/A Cossy's in OSF’s and on the rocker cover they don’t have 'turbo' were some made with out it or do people have them filled in or something? If someone could shed some light on it for me that would be good

Depends really how much you go to do... weather can be good in Oct for a nice drive on a weekend. I like to get the car back on the road for April/May time as the weather is NORMALLY improving by then… Problem is, it is so much easier to work on the car in the summer…longer evening warm, dry (well)… I can get more work done to the car on a summer weekend than sometimes evenings in the week and the weekend in the winter. Also I have less motivation to leave the nice warm house to go into a cold dark garage… lol But I know it will be no different this year...cold nights in the garage

What car it for? I use admiral on any modern car and Sureterm Direct for a classic. Being young as well I am limited on who I can use and with mods on all my cars…
