  1. Was thinking about an Escort RS2000 shape boot spoiler. NOT THE DUCK TAIL!! Only the width of the boot though.. Just being a 4 door it seems kinda odd to have all this stuff, but if Imprezas and Evos can get away with it with 4 doors I don't see why a car worth having wouldn't
  2. It's got a Jap engine but that whole huge rear wing thing is not cool.. Making a smooth underbody template this week though.. Gonna use a MK1 Scrote front spoiler but I can't visualize a small real boot spoiler on a Cortina..
  3. As the Cortina (four door) is now nearing the home stretch I'm starting to play with ideas. The main one I've always thought about is a front and rear spoiler, nothing major just similar to the Escort front and rear spoilers. Any photos of a Cortina sporting these and is it possible to do this to a 4 door without it looking, you know, shite?
  4. I found what it was and I'm so pissed off with myself for not rebuilding the engine myself when I wanted to.. The previous owner had moved a pressurized water hose onto an inlet plenum vacuum tube AND HOSE CLIPPED IT ON!! I just didn't notice it for days. It didn't need to be removed to take the head off either.. That's why it was somehow able to fill the bored with water without going through the intercooler or anything..
  5. It's flowing almost like it's being poured out of a watering can.. Turbo is water cooled yes.. I had the head off etc and saw no VISUAL cracks or in fact any evidence of cracks. There was a lot of emulsified oil in some of the waterways and cylinder 3 was fairly messy.. The inlet side of things seems dry which makes me think obviously exhaust side, but the water doesn't seem to be under much, if any pressure which makes me question if the turbo seals are gone..
  6. Long story short I've swapped an engine into the Cortina and there is water pouring out the exhaust.. I did the head gasket yesterday and it still does it just as bad. It's a turbo engine but when I take one of the intercooler pipes off and kind of keep the car running next to no water comes out.. Yet it's flowing out the exhaust.. HELP!!!
  7. I did think about modifying an exhaust heat shield or wrapping it if it came to it. It's gone turbo so I wasn't sure if the exhaust would be hotter or not?
  8. As an estimate how close would you say is too close? I ask because I fitted 2 fuel pumps on the left side of the fuel tank on the Cortina (MK1) and it occurred to me after routing all the lines etc that the exhaust goes that side. Dick I know. I still wanna route the pipe over the axle but it's gonna be tight.. I can't see the pumps melting of the fuel hitting flash point. Bikes .ru. fairly close after all..
  9. I've read basically every wiring diagram there is. I just need someone that has fitted one of these engines in a car that has nothing to do with anything Nissan to tell me what needs lives and what needs earthing. There are no basic idiot guides. Nobody seems to have documented how they got these engines running away from a Jap car..
  10. Being a proud owner of a daily driver MK1 Cortina I can honestly say I can't wait for Ford to make that.. As soon as that gamma shaped, Aston, Focus truck rip off comes out I can flip my '65 end ways and it will still double in value haha
  11. Next Thursday I am taking out the old Pinto and swapping in a Nissan CA18DET.. Fitting etc not a problem. I need to know how people actually got theirs running.. What wires need power.. What ECU pins need what. I have the loom. Just nowhere to start.. Please if you can, I need help on this..
  12. After all my ideas about Lexus V8s, Supra engines etc I decided to go with the more.. Intelligent choice of a CA18DET. I have it all there engine loom, coil pack loom on the way and ECU.. Just need someone that has done it to tell me how to power it all up so I can run itooutside the car before I put it in the car. Thanks in advance
  13. Has anybody got experience with both of these on a car? Thinking of having rear coil overs on the Cortina, but I don't know if I should keep the 2.8 Capri leaf springs I have fitted or remove them and just run the coil overs.. Pros and Cons of running coils only? Should also mention that I have a Milton A frame fitted also..
  14. Just wondering how much they are worth. Got a pair kicking around and I want rid. Just don't want to be one of these people that wildly overestimates the value of something just because they are old and original..
  15. I heared somewhere that the 2.9 Cossie can be modified to run a dizzy and carbs, but after hearing it I have found NO information on doing it, something about a 2.8 V6 dizzy with a 2.9 Dizzy drive gear. As I said I can't find any reliable info
  16. Biggest thing swaying me the V6 route is that I already have everything there to bolt it in over a short weekend. V6 type 9 box, split 2.9 cossie prop etc.. And as I said I outrifht refuse to cut the bulkhead and lose the heater.. Fitting the newer engines is fine but I don't wanna deal with the electronic garbage.. Had a MK5 RS2000 engine in for a while and I just didn't trust that if it stopped all I needed to do was swap the dizzy internals.
  17. Both.. Waste of time to have something that pulls away fast only to burn the brakes out at every turn I'm also considering an Essex/Cologne because I can keep the current running gear and fit it in a weekend.. Only issue being i'm told that Essex's/Cologne's are boat anchors..
  18. I'm thinking about putting a Ford 289 V8 in my MK1 Cortina, and I am totally against the idea of cutting the bulkhead out because I want to keep the heater and the comfort, it currently has a Pinto between the wings. Just wondering how people would shift more weight to the rear of the car as adding a 289 is definitely going to make the car nose heavy..
  19. I want to fit a 4 branch manifold into my Pinto engined MK1 Cortina. However, I still have the steering box (not rack) set up. Does anybody know if a 4 branch will foul the box or will I be alright?
  20. Yeah, i'm well aware the MPG is going to plummet. But right now the Cortina's idling about 1600 rpm so just burning fuel for a laugh with the 32/36 on it right now. Bent throttle butterflys if anyone was wondering . So i'm guessing that the MPG will drop maybe 5 or 6 with 40's, but the power should also raise by about 4 or 5BHP... Is that a fair assessment or am I way off ?
  21. I'm hoping (friend providing) to have a set sorted at the weekend. So i'll give them a whirl. If not i've still got a set of bike carbs in case the 40s fall through...
  22. I have considered Dellortos. Only issue being parts availability.
  23. My old man says if'll be a bad idea. But i've proved him wrong so far so I kinda wanna go for it. The fuel economy has crossed my mind though... But so has the thought of the sight and sound. I only travel less than 2 miles from work... Still drive though.
  24. As the title really... I'm considering a set of 40s but i've been warned they're a massive pain to use daily. So what's the general verdict?
  25. Mine was the Chocolate cake.. And the Pizza.. Al covered in grease and a tonne of cheese... Thank god I missed this healthy eating crap
