  1. Sebring, a little off subject. But I know of a fairly sorted MK1 Escort Van down here, the guy said he'd want about 5 grand? Not moved for about 2 years but I could enquire if you wanted?
  2. Very much agreed, i've got 205/60/13s on the Cortina and i'm struggling to find 215 and bigger to go on 13's
  3. VERY LONG STORY, TURN BACK IF SCARED OF LOTS OF LETTERS AND WORDS ...Basically a rant that'll turn into a proper thread soon (Hopefully). Got the Cortina in to my Dad's worskhop early in June to fit a MK6 RS2000 Engine, type 9 and what not.. All wen't great, tiny bit of modifying and modification to the bulkhead, front crossmember and tunnel, and in 3 days the engine and box were in, clutch was working and had been converted to cable, and in fact had been turned from an auto to manual, majority of the wiring done etc. Then I ran out of time I only had 4 days to get it going and we missed it. Not a problem get it to my work. Long story short, got the wiring finished, exhaust made, made an exhaust manifold from bits on nothing, made an inlet manifold and 2 bike carb sets later found a set that worked, found a cooling fan to fit (Renault Master intercooler fan ). Got it going, but after a few hours of tuning the ignition etc it started getting worse, so we left it for a while.. then all of a sudden a realisation. All that blue smoke but with no weird smell, the massive hydrocarbons, crap running and strange fluid coming from the exhaust manifold gasket.. The bloody head gasket had gone, big style. So she's been laid up on my drive for over a month.. Till the other day when I finally decided to crack into this engine, rather than do the Zetec thing. So far going well besides the fact its a 130'000 cam chain engine and it's NEVER been worked on, head skim, new chains, new tensioner plunger burst in my hand. Anyone else ever thought that maybe they were destined to fail ? Kinda thinking my supercharging idea might be shelved as well...
  4. That's pretty similar to what I was thinking, just slightly squarer to go with the Cortina's lines.. Out of interest, what did you make your arches out of?
  5. I wasn't thinking anything too over the top, but i was also thinking to bring the outward increase into the rear door as well...
  6. 4 Door MK1 Cortina with slightly flared arches (an inch or 2).. What are people's opinions on this idea?
  7. Problem is. This has to be sorted in the next 2 days. So ordering parts from companies is kinda out of the question unless they do next day.
  8. Basically i'v got a 16v DOHC RS2000 engine with bike carbs (FZ750) that was gravity fed and didn't use a fuel pump, made the manifold, put them on and they literally pissed fuel, then fire.. However the car did run. So I went for bigger carbs (1996 Fireblade) that DID run a fuel pump (I'm running a 3PSI Facet Purolator) totally redesigned the manifold to angle the carbs so the floats are flat etc, and to my utter distane, they leak still, not a huge amount but there is excess fuel coming from the trumpets/chokes I'v got a filter in the line that does actually reduce the pressure somewhat, I just need some intelligent ideas as to what I can do to sort this or what the problem could be... Thanks.
  9. I live about 3 minutes from the hill, didn't see anything??
  10. Surely that Cortina's like, One of One left??
  11. Haha, very good photoshop there
  12. Does anybody have a map for a DOHC Escort RS2000, mines running bike carbs and obviously have a Megajolt. So I need a map, however I cannot find one for this engine anywhere. If all else fails, would a tuned Pinto map do well for a starting point?
  13. Yup, in Portsmouth, as far south as you can get, and the bloody Cortina has a dusty glow. Luckily I cleaned it the same day the Volcano went bang.. On the plus side, nobody gives a crap about old car emissions anymore
  14. I'm also interested in this as i have an N7A (RS2000 DOHC) engine I plan to run on bike carbs. I hear they're most effective on injection conversions due to the heads being made differently etc, but as far as i'm concerned a carb is only as good as the setup.
  15. Some help needed here. After trawling magazines, internet etc I have come up blank.. Can somebody give me a decent description of a type 9 DIESEL bellhousing. I've taken the type 9 I have apart and still no luck.
  16. The difficulty I have is that since I was 0, i've been around cars and bikes from the 30's to the mid 70's, mostly American cars, and since I was 9 i've been around muscle cars and actually been doing projects with my Dad who owns a business restoring Classic cars. So as a younger person I am fairly grounded in my knowledge and background.. But there's something about taking old ideas, taking the 1% that I feel I would do to my car and making the rest up so I can stand there with grazed and cut knuckles, oil raining off my face and at least say that there is something that nobody has done.. However I do appreciate that the reason nobody has done it, might be because it's a stupid and crap idea
  17. Just a little spaz I have every now and again with my Dad to do with how to go about things... His view on engine modification, suspension modification, engine transplants etc is basically follow what others have done and avoid mistakes and agro, fair.. However, him being 48 and me being 19.. I feel that it's better to do what you want, how you want and not follow what the "Old Boys" did during the 80's and 90's. How do all of you feel about this, do you agree with my Old Man that learning from the past is best, or my views that being at the sharp end with a Classic car is the way to go?
  18. This week on my MK1 Cortina I fitted 2.8 Capri rear leaves (I'v no idea where all this bullsh*t about having to make bushes and sleeves came from, if anyone's interested I can give the real story behind it) and I also fitted Burton -3 inch lowering springs up front, and I can safely say that she handles like a beast and feels as smooth and as planted as any IFS/IRS modern silver box. Do it properly and don't worry later on down the line
  19. I seem to remember going past "The land Of Nod" up near York somewhere? There is also "Upper and Lower Dicker" and my personal favourite.. "Licky End"
  20. I did watch it, and was very disappointed by Webber taking out Lewis.. I wasn't as pleased as I should have been for Button, simply because I already knew the result..
  21. So, I just turned on BBC1 an hour before the replay of F1. Because some of us don't want to wake up at 5am, and the first thing that happens? THEY TELL ME THE F*UCKING RESULT!! So after hours of avoiding finding out the result the stupid 'tards at the BBC tell me on their own channel making it kinda pointless to watch the entire race.. Would I be a total squinny if I complained to the BBC directly about this, it's totally buggered up my Sunday!
  22. This is true.. Well once the weather gets 1 or 2 degrees warmer i'll be in the process.
  23. So, there could be a small chance that I might actually have to not worry about it at all?
  24. I don't know, the engine is still in the car. I don't wanna tear the engine all out and find I fall at the first, I wanna get as much knowledge and info as possible so I can get this done in 2 or 3 weekends.
  25. I'll check the BH and spline length thing tonight, if I have lucked oput and it's a DI BH then i'll be away.. The DI BH will be easier to get, however right now I don't have a prop either simply because i'v no idea how low, and far back i'm gonna mount the engine. And the reason it's a mystery is because this type 9, actually came out of a Vauxhall Chevette hybrid race car thing.. So I have no idea what engine was in it etc.
