antz Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 ok people i know winding the mileage back on clocks is wrong BUT im converting my escort to RS dash clocks and the mileage is different. how can i wind the rs ones so they say teh same mileage as mine? changign the speedo isnt an option as the needle colour is different on the 2 speedos. bigkev has told me you need a cable and a drill but can anyone elaborate or something? cheers
Mark2Mark Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 I did it when i bought my RS clocks i did not use the drill method though i took out the actual counter took it apart and moved the numbers around manually it's a bit fiddly but take your time and don't loose any of the bits!
antz Posted March 31, 2007 Author Report Posted March 31, 2007 does that actaully work? ive heard that is breaks the mechanism and they dont work properly if you do that
Mark2Mark Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 Mine worked, the numbers are on little cogs that turn one another in turn so you can't just twist them you have to seperate each number and turn it
walsh253 Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 go in reverse till it gets to the right number im drunk ..
emu Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 Unscrew the speedo head from the back of the clocks and swap the needles over. It should just prise off. Do the ghia one first so that if you do break it then its not the end of the world. Either that or just leave it at whatever mileage it is showing already.
bortaf Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 did mine indoors before i fitted it, used a spare speedo cable pluged into the speedo and clapmed the othe rend of the INNER cable in a drill and turned it on, took a while especialy if the new dash is more than the old and you have to go round the clock to get past zero
MK2STOO Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 does that actaully work? ive heard that is breaks the mechanism and they dont work properly if you do that defo works! be very gentle tho
walsh253 Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 ant its only got 92389 on the clock so grab yourself a book to read
Guest AllegroLover Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 go in reverse till it gets to the right number im drunk .. Ferris Buellers Day Off springs to mind..!
Andy504 Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 I did the same on mine antz, took it apart and put it back in reading 00001 when i finished my resto, it is fiddly and you can break em so go gentle.
tazrocks88 Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 go in reverse till it gets to the right number im drunk .. Ferris Buellers Day Off springs to mind..! haha i thought the same
Rick Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 hmm il have a go of that myself before i fit my clocks. would be nice to read 0000 as its fully renewed
seventynine Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 swap the ghia tacho into the rs clocks, failing that, swap the rs needle onto the ghia clock
antz Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 cant swap them as the needles are different colours just found out thyey have got 54898 on them and my mileage is 75939 ill have to take them apart and see whats what
seventynine Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 what do you mean? swap the needle of desired colour onto desired clocks?
antz Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 basically i am getting some rs clocks with white needles. my ghia ones are orange needles. i cant swap the whole dials over cos of that so i want to clock the mileage on the white ones to show my actual mileage.
Tom Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 20k miles won't take that long on the drill mate, ust don't go too far!!
antz Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 ha ha ha cheers! how do i attach it to a drill? can you give me an explanation even a dummy will know
Tom Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 you'll need a speedo cable and a drill. plug the cable into the back of the clock and the other end into the drill. make sure you only put the inner cable in the drill!!! put the drill in a vice and hit the auto button, grab yourself a cuppa and wait
antz Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 cheers tom! i dont think my dad will want me to use his drill cos he is a greedy bugger...better buy myself a drill cheers everyone for the help1
Jay_harrier Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Take 'em apart Antz, the drill method works but takes ages & you don't want to spin them too quickly - if it gets too hot then you'll wreck them. You need to add 21000 miles on to the new one, by the drill method if you spin it up to show 100mph then its going to take 200+ hours , so even spinning at 400mph will take 50 hours solid Have a practise on your old ones before doing the real ones, as the other guys said, if the speedo head is the same then pop the needles off both & drop the old head into the new gauge set.
antz Posted April 2, 2007 Author Report Posted April 2, 2007 didnt think of how long it would take looks like taking them apart is my only method. ill have to have a play and work it out. anyone wanna do it for me? theres a few beers in it 4 ya
tazrocks88 Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 isnt it ilegal 2 wind back clocks no matter wat the circumstances??? thats wat i have always been told
