atomic punk Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Malta, what a place, hot, friendly people, virtually no crime, laid back Basically the opposite of Britain. Oh, and there are lots of old skool motors all over the place Dozens of mk1 Escorts but very few Mk2s for some reason. Sadly they have now introduced some sort of MOT which is sadly decimating the interesting cars. Still plenty about, these ar ethe pics I got away with taking. There is also a motor museum there which is well worth visiting. Enjoy Escorts: Fiestas: Cortinas: One of hundreds of Mk1 Trannys And pics from the museum
allanmex Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 nice pics mate. i went over there a few years back, i couldnt believe the amount of old fords everywhere. the first car i saw after getting off the plane was a mint white harrier. gonna have to go again soon
antz Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 yes the MOT sucks. they never used to have one so they ahd hundreds of old cars all over the place! but the mot has cracked down on them i dont know why there wenrt many mk2 escorts. out there though the mk1 escort is the equivilent of the nova over here! every boy racer hs one and the thing is. all of them will be daily drivers!

Posse Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 i would love to go there my uncle came back on Tuesday from there he said its like going back it time.
atomic punk Posted April 13, 2007 Author Report Posted April 13, 2007 do they have scrap yards out there?? i bet they would be interesting.... I did see a couple but they were full of relatively modern stuff chopped in half for some bizarre reason. Although virtually every field had a rotten hillman minx in the corner that served as a makeshift shed Malta has to be done - I did find the drag strip but nothing much was happening when I was there
Nettles Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Great pics, That last shot is amazing, looks like it could have been taken 30+ years ago!

escortmad79 Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 does anybody know when the drag racing is on?? ive just gotta go over there and have a watch fook watching! id buy an osf and have a go! last time i enquired about an osf fin malta (2 years ago) a mk1 escort was roughly £800 thats a modified 2 door! *books flight* A mk1 constitutes hand luggage right?
atomic punk Posted April 14, 2007 Author Report Posted April 14, 2007 It probably would be a bit cheaper to buy one and import it than buying one in the UK. RHD, too so no dodgy conversions They are in the EU so importing one shouldnt be too difficult, and think of the drive home - ferry to Sicily, then drive through Italy, the Alps, France........
quickrack Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 That new test is 1 of the requirements of the E.U. We got 1 few years ago and it decimated the level of old cars on the road! Same reason your MOT is changing.
Tom100e Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Hey I used to own LAA 606 mk3 Tina wagon Regarding the lack of Mk2 escorts, well Mk1's were always the preferred model here with Escort lovers....and many were done up properly many times over so survived the years...they still pop up in the classifieds on a semi-regular basis and so on too. Mk2's... there are some of them left you just have to be lucky with spotting those Regarding our MOT... laws changing all the time - up till about 10 years ago there was still a guy near where i used to live that drove a square grille sit up and beg pop on a daily basis....not any more though. Our interesting scrapyards disappeared around 1999/2000....when the environmental agencies here decided to crack down on all the irregular sites...of course those were the ones with the most interesting cars....hurts me even to remember. (on a non-Ford note....one particular yard was full of 1950's ad 1960's Mercedes cars in salvageable conditions and they all/mostly got crushed.....) Of course interesting cars languishing in some garage are still to be discovered by some lucky bug*er....but tis getting harder than it used to be. Everything considered though I appreciate how much we have it good as far as car availability goes.....just do not try importing anything into Malta with an engine capacity over 2 litre though...the registration fees are insane! (think in terms of 10,000+ just to register the car on the road....) Well rant over for now....if anyone needs anything clarified feel free to ask.. i will be more than willing to give my view on it! Thomas
