capriclive Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 finally got the heads back on, and put it all back together. still runs a bit lumpy, gets hot, and has a slight water leak from the corner of the o/s cylinder head. what a ba****d. got to strip it all down AGAIN! I have been offered a recon , race built 3.0 engine, not sure of full spec as yet, but it was built for someone who then didnt want it. its never been fitted or run, so basically brand new. been sitting in the corner of the place that built it. its supposed to be a complete unit, ready to fit. can be mine for £250 if i want it. is that a good price?
RFChris Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Its not worth anything until you've heard it run. If its got all the bells and whistles then its worth it. But deffo try and get to run before you part with the moolah. Chris
antz Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 id say so. you cant even get a standard 1600 xflow for that
john_3.0s Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 got to be worth a look in.... as per your other post it be interested in it myself if u dont take it..
Tonys18t Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 hard luck on the original heads, but that 3.0 sounds like a winner at 250. if its from a good source you should be safe i suppose,
capriclive Posted April 13, 2007 Author Report Posted April 13, 2007 its from a good mate of a good mate. he has no use for it. will get a money back guarantee with it if im not happy with it.
X-pack-Glyn Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 lets get somat straight right now, essex race engines produce damn near 280 bhp...BUT, thay cant be allowed to tick at all over as it can bust the lobes of the camshaft.... there is no way on this earth you could run a race essex on the street, no way. in my opinion the term "race tuned" is thrown around way too much, it MAY have been played with but IF its a full race essex no one in a million years is gona let it go for 250 quid, on a race essex the cranks worth a grand on its own.
QuadCamCapri Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 on a race essex the cranks worth a grand on its own Or nearer £3k if it's a billet steel GAA one As Glyn says "race tuned" is a meaningless term, but for £250 if it's a freshly built standard one it's got to be worth it.
