Delotus Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Made a few calls for insurance. I Tried emailing Adrian Flux for a quote for insurance on my1967 mk1 cortina. They called me back, took all my details but they carn't insure me.Passed me on to some quote agency and thay said they carn't quote me either. My car looks like a lotus ,lowered ,quater bumpers, lotus steels and is getting fitted with a worked 1700cc cross flow this or next week. There answer was "maybe its the postcode i come from." Well beat me down with a stick but is Liverpool the only bad area in the country to have bother with car crime.?.I don't think so! Don't take this the wrong way People of Britain but look at the following: I had my concorce VW CAMPER VAN NICKED FROM BLACKPOOL,never to be seen ever again . My mint mk1golf gti BROKEN INTO in and the seats/wheels robbed at some castle in WALES . My Mk 2 escort jumped all over and wrecked by some gobshites in Chester. My mk3 Capri nicked from BOLTON where my missus is from . My Mk 5 cortina broken into and radio fookin swiped in Burnley. All of which i never made a single claim.I wish i had ,cus i don't think it make a jot off difference. Guess what? I've had no bother whatso ever from anyone in Liverpool! Not even a single hubcap!! So where do they get these comments from. Hugely dissapionted in A Fux. Are these modifications such a big thing that they won't take the risk? Maybe there worried if i actually drive the car out of Liverpool ,thats where i and my car might be at risk! I dought it meself.Don't take that to heart people. I've got 19 years driving experiance behind me .I've never ever made a claim never had a bump and have been insured for all these years. So i have full no claims .I drive a 1 litre VW polo every day cus it's a great runaround and i have 3 points on my licsence from 4 years ago.PC30. I tried Hic excellent website where you can add all modifications to the list and was about to "get my Quote " when all of a sudden they where experiancing tecnical difficulties and all went balls up.But quoted there number to call them which i will do. I once had a highly modified VW Beetle and they did a good deal for me on it. Tried Footman James: all mods noted quoted me £670.00 with £100 exess limited mileage of 6000.a total joke! What gets me though is with some companies you tell them of all things done and they don't want to know. Utter ridiculous. This is not a rant its a point of fact and i think people should be aware of these things when all the glittery magazines have insurance company "LYING" Saying they can insure :young drivers /modifide cars, and whatever else they want to say to get you to call them. Beware. Trying a few others now so i'll let you know. Tim
antz Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 direct line would only insure me 3rd party on my escort because its over 25 years old! and they wanted £1500! liverpool victoira had no problems and got FULLY COMP for £1122.
Delotus Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 Hi ,i am using them(Direct Line) to insure my polo 1 liter. I called them and got some excellent advice sayng they can insure the cortina as a second car but it would only be for 3rd party only, hence not insured for theft. The Guy on the phone recommended going with a specialist which i am going to do. Thanks Tim
Gareth Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 I got insurance through an insurance company called Greelight. ( www.greenlightinsurance.com ) They were really helpful insuring my 4i, I declared all the mods, £900 annually. Not bad considering I got laughed at By churchill and didnt even consider any1 esle. That also included drivin abroad and lots of other bits as standard, that other companies dont offer. I'm 22 and living in Oxford which is a high car crime area, so ur not alone dude. I get joy riders on my estate every few nights.
Mr.Sumo Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 i went on www.confused.com mate , they got me a quote on my Granada within 10 mins.....plus the other 20+ that would insure it I pay £174 fully comp , agreed value , 6000 miles per year ..... give them a go mate , you might be suprised
Admin Vista Posted October 2, 2006 Admin Report Posted October 2, 2006 Tried Footman James: all mods noted quoted me £670.00 with £100 exess limited mileage of 6000.a total joke! Don't really understand that, Footman James only charged me £330 to cover two classic cars on one policy, with unlimited mileage and both on agreed values. And that's declaring the mods and my 6 points. Sounds like another Post code lottery to me! Good luck finding something more reasonable
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 That's bad news Tim. I went with footman james and it's costing me £170 fully comp, unlimited mileage with all mods declared. What we should do is all ring up a company for a quote, but using your car as 'the car I'm thinking about buying' just to see how the quotes vary. Ok, I know it'll also depend on our age too but it's just a thought.
RSvan Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Try these m8 www.sureterm.com or ring them on 0870 20 20 230 its a pain in the arse getting insurance when u live in liverpool some just give u silly prices just so u dont go with them
Rick Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 iv only been driving a couple years and iv already learned that insurance companies are cretins, i wont bore you with my details though i just hope i can insure my car when its done
Delotus Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 Thanks lads for your time in posting your recomendations. I spat me dummy out and went ahead and took the measily 1200cc engine out.Ready for this 1700 crossflow. I understand modified cars cost more than standard cars to insure but sometimes i think there takeing the P***. So i will call round the insurance companies you all mentioned who i haven't tried allready. I'll keep you posted. Take care and thanks again,Tim
105Nick Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Yeah I was paying £1000 for third party, on a standard 997 Anglia, as I have no no claims (was using my mums car for the 2 years Ive been driving) then found HIC who gave me £400 cheaper for fully comp insurance with an agreed valuation and windscreen cover.
kms Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Just to let you know we insured the yank with Footman James for £170 - that came with free recovery (sounds nice but only if your vehicle was under 18ft long! w*nkers) and all of the other osf with HIC - can't really recommend them enough, they even threw in track day cover for the Anglia aswell!
Delotus Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 Hi . I tried HIC. They couldn't even quote me as they asked what was my best price. I said £670 with 5ooo limited males or £470 with lower mileswith Forman James . He said yer best go with them. I told him Footman James can do it for £460 with lower annual milage he said sorry no can do. I told him i'm in a car club, i use internet forums, sorry i carnt help he said. Tried Sureterm ,again a similar thing, they couldn't compete also. Its because of the mods they said. Tried Green light As they have a modifide number to call and i was too late as buisness had closed ,it had gone past 5 pm. I'll keep trying tommorrow. Thanks again Tim. PS looking like i'll be putting the 1200 back in...no chance!!
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 I said £670 with 5ooo limited males Are you offering an escort service and in what way are they limited?
pelvins Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 i had a policy with adrian flux all going good with my highly modded anglebox but i made a mistake on insuring two cars with them and when my peugeot daily driver got hit in the rear they told me they could no longer insure me on the anglebox !!!! now with roadsure no probs
Delotus Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 I said £670 with 5ooo limited males Are you offering an escort service and in what way are they limited? hehe. Yes, i think i will start just till me insurance is paid,i only accept women in my limitation but what you offering? Tim
