Dom Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 New oil to go black in an engine? Bearing in mind the block was full of petrol for a couple of days. I bought new oil and a filter but the oil is still clean and this was last week.
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 I thought it only took a few miles for it to start going black. Could be wrong though.
alladdin Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 your lumps been well flushed so it should take some time in my opinion ?
d13dkt Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 changed the oil in my 2.8i and it took about 2000 miles to go black.
Southernspeed Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 I've got 2 big V8s and when I change the oil at around 2500 - 3000 miles it's always pretty clear and just a bit darker (slightly) than when it went in. If you're blackening oil much sooner you may want to look into why or if you use the engine hard, consider a cooler (or better oil!)
Cookie Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 your lumps been well flushed so it should take some time in my opinion ? Yea, years ago when i was doing an appretiship in a garage one of the blokes there used to swera by flushing engine with fuel, even used to start it up with just petrol in there for a few seconds I did this on my rover coupe turbo many moons ago and i swear it works the bollox, engine oil stayed clean for ages, don't know if it did engine any good though
