New oil to go black in an engine? Bearing in mind the block was full of petrol for a couple of days. I bought new oil and a filter but the oil is still clean and this was last week.

I've got 2 big V8s and when I change the oil at around 2500 - 3000 miles it's always pretty clear and just a bit darker (slightly) than when it went in. If you're blackening oil much sooner you may want to look into why or if you use the engine hard, consider a cooler (or better oil!)

your lumps been well flushed so it should take some time in my opinion ?

Yea, years ago when i was doing an appretiship in a garage one of the blokes there used to swera by flushing engine with fuel, even used to start it up with just petrol in there for a few seconds

I did this on my rover coupe turbo many moons ago and i swear it works the bollox, engine oil stayed clean for ages, don't know if it did engine any good though :lol:
