Jimsiss Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 My theory on smoking is that NO ONE needs to smoke, its just a mental thing that you've got to over come if you do smoke, I've never smoked and I don't feel the urge to and I feel healthier for not smoking, I try to hold my breath while walking past people who smoke because I hate the smell of the smoke and I don't want to breath in other peoples unwanted waste. Plus it's a BIG waste of money and very annoying when people go on about how much then need a fag when they don't, it should be banned outright but the government makes too much money off it to do that If you have never smoked how can you say you feel healthier for it?? And how can you say someone doesnt 'need' a fag?? its an addiction. i will hold my hands up and say that i am addicted. From certain studies they reckon its harder to quit fags permanently than Heroin. So im sorry Jimsiss but you dont have a clue what your talking about. I know I feel better because I don't feel like crap like all my mates do who smoke, everyone I've spoken to says that smoking is addictive but its a mental thing not physical, just you try giving up, your mind will be telling you you need to smoke because the body is used to the nicotine but with anything its the mental side that causes the person to crave something so they believe they need it, basically its all in your head except the physical damage that smoking does to the body

mr squidian Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 i feel an argument brewing here smoking isnt the best thing but if people want to do it .. im not stopping them . hell my bro does it .. i dont hate him! i think the goverment should leave everyone be.. quote flyingbanana "free county"
Tom Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 at the end of the day its a habit. everyone has them. i too dislike smoking indoors. the pub is the only place where i smoke indoors (oh and the garage) i have smoke breaks at work, always have. yeah its a break but i don't drink tea or coffee so i don't stop to make/drink that 5 times a day.
emu Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Lots of people have said that its a free country, there choice, etc, etc. Fair enough with that. I dont particularly like smoking but I dont sit and preach at people who do. Its their choice BUT. If I go to the pub I come out stinking of smoke. I dont go to the pub to smoke, I go to have a drink. So where was my choice regarding passive smoking??
bortaf Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 Not really botherd either way TBH, they've banned drinking in public in my area so i spose they should ban all anisocial habbits like smoking as well Next thing you know they'll be trying to ban old cars from town centres due to all the crap they put in the air Oh, they are As for saying it;'s not a physical thing it's all mental is bull, sorry mate don't meen to offend but you obv have little idea about addictions. Can i make one point, driving cars puts more crap in the air than smoking a fag ever will, something to think about
atomic punk Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 I agree in principle to this ban. My mrs is in a band and we play in local pubs; there is one in Southampton that is so bad that I come home with my eyes stinging and my throat sore. Smoke free pubs are a lot more pleasant but almost always virtually empty. Trouble is, I've been there and done it (given up 6 years ago!!), I know how relaxing a pint and fag is - I guess its just gonna make people stay at home where they can smoke rather than go to the pub, which cant be a good thing
old skool freestyler Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 i smoke but i do agree with it in ways people that dont smoke have the right to get away from smoke but as long as people that smoke dont get hasseled im fine with it
ALL4SHOW Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 i agree with the ban to a point ( & i smoke ) but i worked at a place that tried this bus shelter out side smoke area & they had more down time as i worked nights i had to goto my locker get my coat & hi-viz walk across a loading bay have smoke then go back time 20 mins old smoke room 10mins as for pollution old car new car ??? lets not get started on that !!!!! body filler/paint/welding ??? guilty again ive got a few friends,a brother & a mother that dont smoke so i dont smoke in there houses or cars but when they are in my house/car i will smoke so its up to them if they dont like dont call round or get in my car so yes i will respect a non smokers rights as long as my rights are respected as well & as for its bad for my health so are a lot of other things BUT i have payed enough in tax on cigs to pay for private heath care & its MY HEALTH so keep a smoking area & non smoking area & if we want to kill ourselves & watch our money go up in smoke let us
Twinkle Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 i smoke and im proud my habit pays for the nhs did you know there is more revenue from smokers than the nhs has to pay ouy for healthcare of smokers! yes that meansd my smoking will help to pay to have yer bunions done im an outside smoker and at work we have been banned from smoking on station. we did have a smoking room but we, the smokers, decided to stop smoking indoors and smoked out in a bikeshed, now there is a ban on smoking on any nhs property we have been advised to smoke in a well lit public area its the same at hospitals too but its easy to overcome as most hospital grounds have public footpaths on them
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 I always try to be as considerate as I can when I smoke. I smoke outside, I hardly... if ever smoke in my car, I always try to blow smoke away from other people, I always put empty fag packets and their wrappers in a bin, and if somewhere is a non-smoking area, I won't smoke. I agree that drinking alcohol is a massive contributing factor to violence and anti-social behaviour... I myself don't drink. If I feel a bit special, I will have ONE shandy, but that is mainly when I am at a meet. I am not a massive smoker by any means... 10 a day. It is my choice to smoke, no government will tell me whether can or can't. It is all about excepting a person for who they are. I have never been a violent or bad mannered bloke. I like to fiddle with my cars & bikes, I don't drink, I have never done any form of drugs (apart from pain killers), never been in trouble with the Police, but I like the occasional fag. Does that make me a horrid person??? I mainly work for myself, and funnily enough, I don't normally smoke alot at work... never have done. But if I go to make a cuppa, I normally have a fag. At the end of the day, the government are getting off on their 'save the planet' and human rights trip, and trying to tell US what we can and can't do... yet again. I do agree however, that someone who drinks, does drugs, smokes etc. should be charged or refused health care after being told by a doctor that they should stop, or have recieved medical attention to put their contition right, but they refuse to act upon it. But that is just my oppinion
mk2_escort_chick Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 I think I'm quite a considerate smoker. If I have a ciggie in dean's car i'm usually hanging out of the window coz he's a non-smoker. I dont smoke 60 a day, usually less than 10 (well depending on how stressed out i am! lol). Although...anyone who's met me at meets prob thinks i'm a chain smoker! lol Dean can't wait for the ban to come into place. The ban effects my college so...if i'm in my car in the college car park, can i have a ciggie? I'm really confused about the law and dont know if my work is effected. I work in a shopping centre and the centre itself is non smoking, but we go out in our loading bay (along with other shop staff). Fag breaks- we have comp's at work. Do £15 shoe care (polish, insoles etc) and you get to have a 5 min break. You can have a fag, drink, snack etc- your choice.
