PaulAshman Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 I was going to but car is off road till next tues having head gasket done. Gutted as I was looking forward to it.
X-pack-Glyn Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Yep, looks that way...and i can tell you who the trophy winners will be right now, cars, names etc etc, same old same-old, nothing changes... trophies only go to high dollar "cheque book cars", and home built ones dont even get a look in, which is a real shame as im a firm believer in garden shed technoligy, some of the best cars out there were home built in sheds and are a continuing development, all this concourse the round ones with fancy paint and shitty standard engine bays not my scene at all. il be going to show my street car that gets used and abused, il also be making an attempt to cover the thing in as much mud as possible before the show on sunday.
capriv8 Posted May 18, 2007 Author Report Posted May 18, 2007 nice one - can i throw mud at it whiles you drive past - the first to get mud on the windscreen wins?
Admin Vista Posted May 18, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 18, 2007 CCI? That's a swear word in my vocabulary, I was a member for a number of years in the 90's and was continually unimpressed with it as a club.
X-pack-Glyn Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Unfortunatly Vista i dont seem to get a choice, something to do with insurance supposedly Still, theres allways the bargain spares for sale
Admin Vista Posted May 18, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 18, 2007 How is insurance relevant? Do they do some unbeatable deal for CCI members? Spares was one of biggest bugbears, I was into mk1's, but calling up anyone at CCI for anything other than stick on tat for mk3's was a waste of time. Though a recent copy of the spares catalogue I've seen looks a lot better.
X-pack-Glyn Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 No no no, not car insurance, liability insurance, apparently we need it?!?!
erick Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Used to be a member of CCI I found them to be only interested in taken as much of your money as possible on over priced tat and not catering for the true enthusiast.
BudgieV8 Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 MMmm, CCI.... Did all the shows without fail from 1990-2002. The guy who runs it (name omitted to protect the innocent) seemed to lose the plot a while back as he seems to think we all run Mk3 2.8i's & want to buy overpriced 'Tat' to stick on them. - very good at taking money for subs to the club & forgetting to send the mag in return I'll be taking a 'rain-check' on this as I think the independant Capri Clubs & OSF clubs put on better shows, for less money, & give more back to the owners. BTW - I used to run the CCI Cumbria branch (Cumbria Capri Club) & helped with the CCI South West Scotland branch (South-West Scotland Capri Club) so I may speak from some experience as both clubs won the Capri Summer Camp challenge trophy in the early '90's
Doc Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 i was gonna go take the capri but its going to be shitty weather and in all honesty im skint ! Oh and i aint picked the car up yet LOL ( next tuesday)
capriv8 Posted May 21, 2007 Author Report Posted May 21, 2007 Well the event was good but the concorce prize giving is best described as a running joke!
Admin Vista Posted May 21, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 21, 2007 Well the event was good but the concorce prize giving is best described as a running joke! Do tell?
X-pack-Glyn Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 same cars, same names and faces..... need i say anymore....
caprixpack Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 i went, weather weas pretty good, got bloody sunburn on me neck lol
Admin Vista Posted May 21, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 21, 2007 same cars, same names and faces..... need i say anymore.... Not really mate, lots of club shows are like that. Same cars trailered between their air conditioned climate controlled garages and the show ground for their annual outings. I've seen one wheeled off a trailer and parked under a gazebo at a show before Having said that everyone has different reasons for being involved in the classics scene. Personally I like to drive mine as often as possible and as hard as possible, if others get the same pleasure from show and shine then good luck to them. And if it means they'll always beat me in competitions? who cares I get my fun by other means and I'll be home long before them having had a lot more fun en route.
capriv8 Posted May 21, 2007 Author Report Posted May 21, 2007 well to sum it up how does my favorite capri a chevy x packed monster win a silver at a concorce show?

Admin Vista Posted May 21, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 21, 2007 well to sum it up how does my favorite capri a chevy x packed monster win a silver at a concorce show? I guess it depends who is defining the word concourse. Some shows you go to the judges determine its meaning as in mint condition and completely standard as it left the factory. Others just mean mint condition regardless of modifications, extras etc etc.

I left before the awards so dont know who got what was in me pick-up as the jps isn't quite ready to come out and play yet this year
X-pack-Glyn Posted May 21, 2007 Report Posted May 21, 2007 You should have stayed for the trophies mate, a big bloke sat on the bench in the middle at trophy giving and completely demolished it he left the bench looking like a half built flat pack then just wandered off, brilliant
capriv8 Posted May 22, 2007 Author Report Posted May 22, 2007 yes that was hilarious - i felt so sorry for the guy (i'm just glad it wasn't me!
Stu.C Posted May 22, 2007 Report Posted May 22, 2007 You should have stayed for the trophies mate, a big bloke sat on the bench in the middle at trophy giving and completely demolished it he left the bench looking like a half built flat pack then just wandered off, brilliant Glyn, Was he driving a beige Mk3 1.6 GL? If so, we passed him in the van on the M6 southbound on the Friday and I initially thought his suspension had collapsed until we pulled up alongside and saw him
crapichris Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 we went to the show and joined up with fellow Luton & District members (yes the branch is still going!). Had a few people come over and talk to us - as someone else said on the forum its 2.8i or nowt else. Don't stand a chance with a Mk1 2litre!!!!!! Judges came past nmy car and my mates mint Cabaret - don't think they even turned their heads to judge them. Had za good day and the weather was great for a change. At least it gave the car a shakedown for Brighton
