Juddering problem SORTED Brake purchase advice please?!

I have a juddering on the car up to about 40/50mph then it dassappears. I have had wheel balanced and they are fine. Jacked up car and front wheels are really hard to turn. Took off wheel and pads are stuck onto the disc making it very hard to the disc by hand. Is this a seized calliper piston and if so what is the=easiest way of solving this problem? It has only recently started happening. Thanks in advance.

The same thing happened to me before Xmas. Unfortunatley, I hadn't realised what it was till to late and as a result, all my front bushes are shot, I have had to replace a wheel bearing, and I was putting petrol in hand over fist.

 

You can get caliper repair kits, although I have never had much luck with these personally, so I just got some new calipers. But yes, your right, the calipers have siezed or jammed!!!

Right the callipers and pads are removed. Serious seized pistons, perished rubber seals and knackered pads (ne with only 1mm of pad left).

 

I am running 2.8 bilsteins with the vented discs, I believe these to be 247mm. What are my options on new pads and callipers, not wanting to spend loads of money.

 

Alternatively does anyone have any callipers they are interested in selling?

Your options are 3

 

A set of used M16 calipers off any mk3 capri, fit the caliper spacers from your current discs then either re-use your existing discs, or fit standard new ones if their shot

 

Fit spaced austin princess calipers for budget 4 pot braking, this is best done with 257mm discs from Rally design

 

or

 

Spend a shed load of cash on wilwood (or similar) 4 pot calipers

I payed £130 odd for my new calipers, and I got them from Tickover in Bexleyheath

have had many problems with brakes on Capris over the last 11 years- best advice is get a set of properly reconditioned ones - p*ssing around with dodgy calipers ,ain't worth the grief. Last set I bought in Bedford cost me £58 each. While they're off get a set of braided hoses.
