 i saw yellow escort pull 126 down the strip and a few others as well reaching well over ton are these cars set for just the strip? if so what advice could you give me apart from buying a escort  to get more power already going to have it set up on rolling road would a chip be a good idea or not? would comp clutch make a differnce as i did'nt suffer from wheel spin on strip? taking the inside's out does this make a lot of diffence or not? what do you think

cool do you mean 4th gear by top even if you have a five speed box

i just hit 4th gear before the line but could have possably gone over the line in 3rd

i was thinking of whatever is your top gear, 4th or 5th, LSD's make a big difference by all accounts (or welded diffs for the strip).

oh yeah, and :nitrous: makes a difference too

its capri 2.8lsd and going over the line in 3rd  and its 5 speed box it was still pulling though as normel driveing i would change in-to 4th over a ton :thumbsup: no wounder why it blows a leek

woo mine was going over the line in 3rd but id change to 4th about 80

which is why i was differing between the two gears as my speed was 79 mph

burns is your sugestion to me to put a different ratio diff in mines 3.7 so would a 3.9 or 4.1 be better or is that the wrong way

Posted

yeah, in theory a 4.1 would give you better accelleration to your top speed, and since you're not actually hitting your top speed down the 1/4 then you'd get over that line quicker

what's the point of having a top speed of 120 if you're only hitting 80 over the line? better to have a top speed of 100 and hit that quicker over the line

burns has helped me a little

im glad you put this post up

hope you dont think i tried to steel it

i think we should both go for a different diff

thanks burns

tis alright, tbh i've picked it up from others on here and learn theory quickly

that's what you learn from lurking on a car forum for ages

 i have a 4.1 diff laying out side but would this be better than my lsd as my lsd did'nt wheel spin off line it just got on with it, would 4.1 diff cause wheel spin off of line :? also do the ones who pull top speed rev as lights are changeing or sit with throtal on a bit? as im not sure as this was my first time out :thumbsup:no worrie's dave good luck because i need it

couldn't you couple the 4.1 gubbins with the lsd and keep both?

i'm not really sure about the launching dude, i'm sure someone with more experience should be able to help

At the risk of attracting the wrath of the OSDC regulars I wouldn't consider a 4.1:1 final drive ratio on a 2.8i unless you're prepared to go to the inconvenience of swapping it back to the standard diff for normal road use

I'm assuming of course that this is your daily driver, or at least a regular road car? If so then for 99% of the time you'll not like it much with a 4.1:1 diff ratio. Losing your LSD would also be a step backwards, if you're determined to have the 4.1:1 then do not fit that diff, instead remove the CWP and replace your standard (3.09:1 I think) 2.8i CWP with it.

Plus to the best of my knowledge there's nothing in the 2.8i's fuel injection system to Chip, it's a Bosch K jetronic system isn't it?

:lol:its not a 2.8 its a v8 rover running on tvr injevtion system pushing 190bhp when guy shut it down due to oil leek(blow)on left bank with moderfied prop and 5-speed rover box,2.8lsd and suspension  no 2.8 ive had could take the abuse i give this has i kill 2.8s before i get them home dont matter what it is in neither misses wont let me have any-more 2.8s i tryed to buy a tickford on the sly  but she found out so good buy tickford :(

In that case I'd definitely think carefully about a 4.1:1 CWP. Oh and by the way I wouldn't lose any sleep over losing to Deltamal, his Cortina is running a 241bhp NA cossie motor on Jenvey 45 TB's

To attain the speed over the line on a 1/4, first you must have the power, Torque produces accelleration and power produces speed, no matter what gears you run, if you dont produce the power you will not be able to produce the terminals, a 4.4 gearset will give you a better launch and accelleration , but will not give you the top speed you need if you run out of revs, where as a 3,5 ratio will give you the speed you need but you will loose out on accelleration and the car will be pulling its tits off trying to go faster against the gears, the terminal speed will be very similar in theory for both gears if your engine will carry the revs for the 4.4s

Terminal speed is allways a good indication of the power an engine is making, and of course weight will have a big factor
