Gareth Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 The brown bubbled mk1 on the OSF stand on sunday was running a 1300... It's an ex oval rod engine and noone knows the spec. But I've seen it keep up with a Burton 1700 mk2 estate
bomber1 Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 if u go 1600 u pay more road tax tho who to know go 16 and have a less stressed engine
tazrocks88 Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 if ya wanna be different get the money for a lotus engine
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 the cost of doing a 1300 or 1600 would be very similar but youd get much more power and fun out of the 1600 and if your wanting your car to have the standard look the 1600 really wont affect it itll still look like a 1300 ghia even with the bonnet open so i voted 1600 but you knew i would didnt you
antz Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 i saw that brown arched mk1. looked well nice whatever i choose though its gotta be twin 40s
Gonzo Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-CORTINA-MK-2 ... dZViewItem Does that help?
bomber1 Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 ur need the correct sump to fit that to an escort
antz Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 if i go for the 1600 ill prob keep my eyes peeled for one already bored out. itd be easier prob save me a few quid too
James HPE Motorsport Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 IMO going 1700 is the only option. Put it this way, like a few others have stated, you will spend pots of cash getting big power out of a 1300 and by the sounds of it your not exactly rolling in it so straight away thats a big no no... Secondly, whats the point in ringing the neck of a 1300 knowing that after a few months you will want more power and wishing you had spent the dosh on a 1700?!?! Go 1700 oh and why go for 40's when you could go 45's... You know it makes sense NUFF SED
antz Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 cos i wont be able to afford the fuel bill with 45s if i get 40s then i can upgrade to 45s
James HPE Motorsport Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 cos i wont be able to afford the fuel bill with 45s if i get 40s then i can upgrade to 45s that is true but fueling wont exactly be cheap with the 40's, not compared to what you have now anyways!
antz Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 its nmot cheap now it was re-jetted so it drinks fuel but goes well
bomber1 Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 its nmot cheap now it was re-jetted so it drinks fuel but goes well even so once thos 40s/45s goon there u will need ur own fuel tanker running behind
antz Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 i was amzed it only cost me £60 to get to the pod and back...400miles you cant beat the sound of 40! just need to get some and decide on an engine to put them on
arch Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 i guy on the island had a tuned 1300 in his mk1 van an he sed tht was quik as an hes got a mexico with a tuned pinto in but he sed the x-flow didnt like the 5 speed box an he sold it to sum guy with a mk2 an he was driving around in tht for abit but he blew it up cos he ran it low on oil an never filled it up jeb end lol
mossy Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 1700 screamer! I really miss mine and wish i had never sold it...need to get my 2.1 running! Pound for power, it makes sense to go 1700, If you cant afford it all at once, get it bit by bit each month... or get a loan!
Richierich Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Gareth wrote: I voted 1300 because it's different 1300 x/f's like to rev, just as easy to tune as a 1600. and it'll annoy folk even more when u say they were beat by a 1300 thats the thing plus i like the idea of sticking to the original engine I understand what ur saying antz, Its nice to keep the original engine and build on it! I've been thinking the same but in reality I think the 1600 would be a more practical choice and in the long run work out cheaper
Ratters Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 1600/1700 Antz Wrong size maybe but it's still the right engine for the car plua you can keep the 1300 under the workbench just incase you want to go original concourse one day Why don't you get yourself a nice cylinder head first then get the bottom end at a later date?? I only fitted my new xflow beginning of last year but the bvh I had on the old 1340 for about 4 years or more
