It's a common thing m8.

A lot of people get their axles shortened or the fit

Anglia axles with longer studs & spacers.

Or

They grind/roll/trim the arch lips where possible

Hey its about personal taste yes 6j are fine but i fancied 7j

Fair do's just means you're going to have to solve the problems that come with it. But 15mm sounds like a lot to machine off the back of the wheel, that'll reduce it's strength quite substantially. I'd say shortening your axle is your only bet.

you say shorten your axle again? meaning you have already shortened it once right? if so, by how much?

You can shorten your axle by an inch either side and use mk1 cortina halfshafts and you are sorted! (i have some spare half shafts if you need them)

7J's on a mk1 were always going to be tight, let alone with a disc conversion aswell!!!

And if they are superlites your running then the maximum you can have machined off the back is only about 4mm before you start eating into the steel inserts for the nut seats!!!

hope this helps

What engine are you running? It's not the engine that breaks axles, it's the grip. You can put hundreds of horse power through an english, if you're only on 185 tyres it'll spin the wheels up long before you approach the point of breaking it.

i did run an english axle for a while with cossy power and it was fine... but i thought i would change it for an atlas just for piece of mind and a better ratio and even with small wheels i get traction and ive got disks on the rear if that makes a difference for clearance and fast eddy your motor looks awesome
