Gareth Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I saw a documentary of a group of aircraft restorers who tracked down a B29 that crash landed in a lake iceland in the war and was exposed for a few months of the year in the summer when the lake evaporated. Within the few months that it was exposed in 1997 they managed to fly in new tyres and engine parts, new rotors and managed to get the whole thing running. They actually got it airbourne too but once the tailwheels were off the ground it suffered an electrical fault and burst into flames, which was a real downer as it would have been the only airworthy and unrestored B29 in existance. I remember that... Was the most interesting documentary I've seen. It was a race against time to get it airworthy, an hopefully fly it back to civilisation before the lake froze over again.
