ZetecVan 2.0 Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Ok, and those who I was talking to at CF about a film called Christine with a Plymouth Fury (and who had never even heard of the film. You know who you are) - This is the type of car that was in that film....! So when they got it into the garage did they say 'Show me'?
RFChris Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Could always be worse...... This is where all the movie cars ended up..... www.forwardlook.net/features/billandeds.htm
Admin Vista Posted June 16, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 16, 2007 Christine was a 57 or 58 Fury wasn't she, not a Belvedere? That was a top film!
Arched Escy Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Water+air=rust...so the shell must be pretty rotten. I seen that film...was on TV last week.
RFChris Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Christine was a 57 or 58 Fury wasn't she, not a Belvedere? That was a top film! 57. Although the film is all wrong. The car they used was a 3 door. Whereas in the book it was a four door. Basically though, think of it in Ford terms. IE Consul=Savoy, Belvedere=Zephyr and Fury=Zodiac. Same shell but different spec. Chris
GT_Jim Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 i dont think they should restore it in my opinion it needs to go into a museum with the stuff in it as its a good piece about social history and also possibly drop something in that hole to replace it
spooner Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 trust boyd c to get his finger in gonna restore it at what cost to the state. :shock i'm sure the money could go to better place's

Gareth Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Christine was a 57 or 58 Fury wasn't she, not a Belvedere? That was a top film! Christine was a '58 Fury Sport Coupe. The red & white paint wasn't an option for that model year, Fury's only came in a pinky colour. Brilliant film, and the book's better. Must've seen the film about 100 times- on VHS of course I've read the book twice too

Gareth Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Still havnt seen this film Recommended with 2 thumbs up  Also log onto Play.com and buy 'The Car' :D
105Nick Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Christine in the film was actually made up from a mix of belvedere and fury parts, basically the fury had different chrome side trim, like the Anglia 1200 Super compared to the Delux, and the Fury only came in white where as the Belvedere came in loads of options. Also Christine had the Fury engine optional in the Belvedere, Fury gold trim too. The fact the water is stagnant might have actually preserved the car in fact hence the lack of rust, metal needs oxygen plus water in order to rust and there definantly isn't much chance of air getting in with it. I saw a documentary of a group of aircraft restorers who tracked down a B29 that crash landed in a lake iceland in the war and was exposed for a few months of the year in the summer when the lake evaporated. Within the few months that it was exposed in 1997 they managed to fly in new tyres and engine parts, new rotors and managed to get the whole thing running. They actually got it airbourne too but once the tailwheels were off the ground it suffered an electrical fault and burst into flames, which was a real downer as it would have been the only airworthy and unrestored B29 in existance.

escortmad79 Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 What a crazy story! Only in America!.... Not the first time something like this has happened & certainly not exclusive to America: http://www.steamtraction.com/archive/4480/ The engine is now completely restored. There was another traction engine dug up recently in Australia too
