Can anyone tell me where i can look up info on the type of engines used in the various old skool fords and information about them? or is it just a case of lots of researching?

Cheers!

Depends what info you mean, if you mean block casting numbers valve sizez etc then it's a lot of research, but if you just want to know engine sizes etc, that should be easily available...

It's not that you're being lazy it's more that you're asking for an awful lot of info for one person to write down.

The simple truth is that most Ford engines can be transplanted into any other Ford given the skill and sufficient budget, the ones most frequently found in Classic Fords are the X - flow and pinto, both can be easily uprated with good results. For big power upgrades the Cosworth motor makes plenty of appearances in turbo and N/A guises. Modern transplants frequently used include the Vauxhall XE and Ford zetec lumps.

Popular V engine upgrades include uprated Essex engines, though less people elect to uprate the 2.8i cologne engine, instead preferring to go down the 2.9i Cosworth route.
