LEONMEX Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 Im possibly looking at selling my twin 45s & getting some 48s,is the manifold the same for the 48s or do i need a new one?? cheers, leon
BaileyMex Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 I think the the 48's need a different one bud, but not 100% I wish I had 45's First dibs if you do decide to sell them
BaileyMex Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 I stand corrected, I thought 40's & 45's shared the same manifold, and 48's needed an bigger one, Well you learn everyday

LEONMEX Posted June 24, 2007 Author Report Posted June 24, 2007 Im just waiting to hear back now on the 48s. Cheers, leon.
Admin Vista Posted June 24, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 24, 2007 What's your reason for going up to 48's? I understand that the 45 is the more useable carb for all round performance, the 48 will give you better top end power but will be far more grumpy lower down. Mine is still on 45's and I have just over 190bhp at the flywheel out of them.

It depends on how you want your engine to perform for wot you are using it for, for you 45's are proberly right as i think you use it for a road car, leon is after revvy power up the top end same as me
LEONMEX Posted June 24, 2007 Author Report Posted June 24, 2007 Baz is right the car is being used more & more for the osfdc & soon some track days,i still use the car on the road but also have a lead foot on the road so bigger carbs will be fine. Ive got 38mm chokes in the 45s at the mo,48s seem an easy way to squeeze a few more bhp from the engine.
Admin Vista Posted June 25, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 25, 2007 Fair do's what sort of spec is your engine at now?
LEONMEX Posted June 25, 2007 Author Report Posted June 25, 2007 At the mo its 2.1 with 2.25mm+pistons big vale head kent ht1 cam & is about 170-175bhp. Not a crazy spec but does the job & so far has been reliable. (touch wood)

You might struggle to gain much bhp over what you've already got though by just swopping over to 48's . My mate has the same spec engine and cam as you and he's had 45's , 48's + 50's on it . He's staying with the 48's at present but the engines less flexible on lower ( road ) rpm levels and not any quicker really .
LEONMEX Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Posted June 26, 2007 Cheers mk1gaz,im going to have some more work done on the exhaust ports & get a bigger manifold on there so im hopeing this all combined will produce a few more horses
