mk2 stu Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 dont think so mate, mk1 is shorter i believe (awaiting barrage of abuse from more knowladgeable members)
Rick Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 i have an unknown rack on mine, its defo not mk1 escort and i had a right game finding gaitors for it too. poss mk2 i dont know?
over_head_cam Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 The racks atre nearly the same I think but the track rod ends are different. I might be wrong of couse.
bronze4door Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 it will fit the same but not sure about the track rod ends fiting as they are different size where the ball joint goes through the strut and the track rod itself is a different thread so you can not use the mk1 trackrod ends
over_head_cam Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 That wa wwhat I was trying to say but my brain wont connect to my typin finger properly and the batteries are going in my keyboard
emu Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 so could you use a mk2 rack with mk2 RS track rod ends? Although,I suppose that by the time you do that you may as well just buy a mk 1 rack
bronze4door Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 not sure about the rs track rod ends i put mk2 struts on my mk1 and as a result had to convert the steering rack and track rod ends for the larger diameter holes on the struts
emu Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Mk 2 RS track rod ends have a the same size taper as all Mk1's. Thats why you need them to put capri legs onto a mk2 but not to put the same legs on a mk1. Least, thats what I think
tim Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 yea there fit you just have to fit the same rack etc
allanmex Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 the rack will fit, but u need mk1 track rod ends, unless uve got mk2 front struts fitted. or if uve got rs or capri struts u need rs track rod ends. i think???
Mr.Sumo Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Posted June 26, 2007 i got 2.0s Capri struts fitted...so i suppose i will have to fit RS track rod ends , yes
allanmex Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 yeah im sure thats right mate, u need rs green track rod ends
petrolhead01 Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 sumo i have just spoke to pip and i think i have a brand new pair of green track rod ends in the workshop!! i will put them in the van and try and drop them to pips tomorrow at some point!!
john_3.0s Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 OK Standard mk2 TREs are coded BLACK (i.e. metric thread and taper). I think that the GREEN TREs are metric thread with imperial taper (i.e. Mk2 RS but im not 100%) Mk1 racks have UNF threads for UNF TREs, Mk2 racks (non RS) have metric threads for metric TREs, Mk2 racks (RS) have metric threads for UNF TREs basically the cast in steering arm type strut (mk2 non RS) have metric tapers, the all Mk1 and Mk2 RS have UNF tapers A starting point would be to find out what struts you have and work backwards. Dont forget there are also long and short racks too....
Dalek Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Having done this on a mk1 donkeys ago... To fit a mk2 rack you also need to fit mk2 struts. To fit mk2 struts you need to fit capri top mounts to the mk2 struts due to the mk1's larger hole in the inner wing. That's all the info that i have but it is 100% fact, not hearsay, pub talk, wee boabs done it etc, i've done this myself. Hope this clears this up a bit ? Craig
Rick Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 i had a bugger finding track rods ends for mine... in fact still dont have any. gotta take my measurements up brown brothers

Gareth Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 It's the same as fitting a quick rack to a mk1, You need the RS TRE's www.rallydesign.co.uk I have 2.8 billies on my project mk1 and these fitted straight on Saying that, are the steering arms on base and bilstein struts the same
over_head_cam Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 JOOI I've got a Mk1 rack on mine with green Fiesta TREs and 2.8i legs (I'm assuming it has Capper steering arms )
