205 is the later pinto block from sierra and transits and stuff.

Think 202 is a cosworth block ain't it? I dunno tho

As far as I know, the block won't make any difference to bhp although some are better than others if you want to bore it out, to be a 2.1 for example. The majority of articles I've read in CF and on the net etc, guys go for the 205.

205 and 200 are cossie blocks. 200 are stronger though, thicker walls etc. Any numbered block inbetween will be a pinto block.

I know of cossies running 450 bhp plus with a 205 block (although a n/a would be revvier and possibly more stressful on the block), So provided its in good nick, chuck whatever you want at it!

As far as an overbore goes, I know at least .5 is ok, I think there's some gen in the Burton Catalog iirc :D

202's Have a lower deck height than normal 205's,think its near 20 thou difference.

205's have a core plug behind the flywheel where the 202 doesnt.

Its said that the 202 has thicker walls but shite iron so they seem to even themselves out on strenth wise.

I've got both blocks sitting in my garage and under the stairs so it dont matter which will get my cosworth crank and rods.

thanks lads getting some good pointers from this, dont like the low compression bit though how low compared to 205 lads :(:(

It's not the block that makes it Low compression it's the pistons that are used in it.

2.0 is the early block

200 is a motorsport block

202 I believe is from the 4x4 Cosworths and is very strong but very expensive

205 block was the standard unit in use across the bulk of the pinto range from 1985 on, it was used on 2wd Cosworths but was also used in Low compression units such as the Transit and P100, that said the block itself I believe is the same. The 205 block is the one that's relatively cheap to obtain still and is a good casting that can stand being bored out to 93 or possibly 94mm (though the latter may leave it a little thin)
