MEXY867M Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 can u lads help me what is the difference between a pinto 2ltr with 202 on the block and 205 on the block, cheers
Dom Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 205 is the later pinto block from sierra and transits and stuff. Think 202 is a cosworth block ain't it? I dunno tho
LEONMEX Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Alot of the stockcar boys use the 202 block,so i guess its stronger??
MEXY867M Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Posted July 11, 2007 so is there any difference in bhp then or they the same and which one do you think is the better
johnno11 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 As far as I know, the block won't make any difference to bhp although some are better than others if you want to bore it out, to be a 2.1 for example. The majority of articles I've read in CF and on the net etc, guys go for the 205.
Arched Escy Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 202 is stronger than a 205.But if you have a 205 block I wouldnt upgrade unless you want a 2.4 on twin 50s.Even then a 205 block would be OK
MEXY867M Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Posted July 11, 2007 so is the 202 a cossie block and how far can this be bored out to without have paper thin side walls etc,
Davecara Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 205 and 200 are cossie blocks. 200 are stronger though, thicker walls etc. Any numbered block inbetween will be a pinto block. I know of cossies running 450 bhp plus with a 205 block (although a n/a would be revvier and possibly more stressful on the block), So provided its in good nick, chuck whatever you want at it! As far as an overbore goes, I know at least .5 is ok, I think there's some gen in the Burton Catalog iirc
tim Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 20 blocks are from mainly carbs stuff 200 is motorsport 202 low comp 205 inj pinto early cossy had selected 205 blocks 205 is the perfered block but only really need with serious tunage
escort greg Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 I thought the 202 block was from a transit
Admin Vista Posted July 12, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 12, 2007 Don't agree on the 202 block being low compression, my 205 block was originally a Low compression engine from a P100.
MEXY867M Posted July 12, 2007 Author Report Posted July 12, 2007 thanks lads getting some good pointers from this, dont like the low compression bit though how low compared to 205 lads
Mr Sam Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 i thoiught you used V6 cylinders to get a 2.1 no boring involved?
oliwally Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 202's Have a lower deck height than normal 205's,think its near 20 thou difference. 205's have a core plug behind the flywheel where the 202 doesnt. Its said that the 202 has thicker walls but shite iron so they seem to even themselves out on strenth wise. I've got both blocks sitting in my garage and under the stairs so it dont matter which will get my cosworth crank and rods.
Admin Vista Posted July 12, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 12, 2007 thanks lads getting some good pointers from this, dont like the low compression bit though how low compared to 205 lads It's not the block that makes it Low compression it's the pistons that are used in it. 2.0 is the early block 200 is a motorsport block 202 I believe is from the 4x4 Cosworths and is very strong but very expensive 205 block was the standard unit in use across the bulk of the pinto range from 1985 on, it was used on 2wd Cosworths but was also used in Low compression units such as the Transit and P100, that said the block itself I believe is the same. The 205 block is the one that's relatively cheap to obtain still and is a good casting that can stand being bored out to 93 or possibly 94mm (though the latter may leave it a little thin)
lee_capri Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 just took 205 block out of transit crewcab and that would pull 100mph and fly round to it as well and thats two tone of truck how do you tell if its a low compresion engine fo future reff for my self must say its intressting reading
