as the weather is a bit poo (again) i think i'll spend the afternoon off work cleaning up the odds and sods for the mex. Have been thinking about getting the x-member, engine mounts, arb brackets and arb all powder coated satin balck - is it worth it? anyone any ideas how much i should be paying assuming i do all the hard work in cleaning them up? There are a couple of places near me but got no idea if it will be 50 quid or 500 quid for that lot.

Powder coating is good. I got X-member, axle/diff casing, various rear sus parts, engine mounts and prop shaft for around £230. That involved them doing all of the leg work.

I would reackon for your lot you shouldnt pay mor than £50 IMO

Shop around tho, let us know what you get

The only problem with powder coating those type of parts is that they are susceptible to being chipped. Once the outer coat has been chipped and moisture is allowed under the skin, the paint tends to flake off quite quickly.

I spend about £2k a month on powder coating for the truck parts we make and we only garuntee it for 6 months.

If it was me having it done I would reccomend having the parts electroplated.

ive had more or less every single part off my mk1 gt powder coated, including engine x member, petrol tank, bumper irons, brakets, strut brace, suspension parts, leaf spring hangers etc etc, looks the dogs and lasts ALOT longer than hammerite spray paint

every part of my cars suspension is powder coated and i can highly recommend it !! if its done properly it is really chip resistant and will last for ages before anything needs re doing, Ive done 5 thousand miles in my car in all weathers and the bottom still looks wicked!!! go for it you wont be disappointed!!

here judge for yourself!! when it gets dirty just a bucket and sponge and away you go!!!!
