As far as I know the grooved and drilled types help aid cooling, but increase pad wear.

Ventilated ones do just that, increase cooling.

Thats pretty much all I know for now

Hope it helps a little

vented will help with reducing the temperature of the disc as there is more metal & more air can circulate in the gaps.

Solids will get hotter for the same amount of braking force from the same speed.

What you're trying to achieve is to keep the temperature at a level where the disc doesn't glow orange, the brake fluid doesn't boil & the pads don't fall apart due to excessive heat.

If you want to start talking grooved and drilled then it gets in the the technical realms of the gases/vapours produced on the brake pad surface and giving them a route to escape + it acts as a clean sharpish edge to clear the pad.

In your case I'd rob an XR2 of it's discs/pads (if they'll fit).

Hope that helps a bit.

Mk1 fiz-pops do suffer a bit with brake-fade so i dare say vented would be good. And bigger if poss ;)

Grooved discs help prvent the pads becoming glazed and help carry brake dust away, but as said before I'e heard they wear the pads quicker

grooved disks , increase pad wear but have optimum braking

solid disks , the basic setup on lots of standard cars

vented disks , a step up from solid . notice the grooves on the outside edge that allow air in to help cooling
