Pipster007 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 .............................When you buy a car that has not been driven or taxed since 1989. I bought the MK1 Escort a month ago with no tax or MOT. When I finally had it towed up home, I had it booked in for an MOT the following day, which it failed The problem is not that I bought a car which has not been on the road in 18 yrs or that it only failed the MOT on one seized wheel cylinder, one leaking cylinder and one split steering gaitor. Those parts have all been replaced and it now has an MOT No, my problem is due to the fact it hasn't been on the road for that long, it missed out on being issued with a new style log book. (I have the old style fawn coloured log book instead) So on Wednesday (18th) I head off to the DVLA office in Borehamwood. I have my MOT, insurance cert, receipt and all relevant forms filled in and signed. After waiting to be seen, I get to the front of the queue. I see the official behind the counter and she says "I can't get a tax disc because I don't have a new style log book" What I have to do is pay another £25 to apply for a new log book and wait for it to arrive, then I can go to the Post Office and get a disc. So now I have a car that's sitting waiting to be driven, but cannot The other annoying thing about it, is it's a 1969 Escort and it's entitled to free tax anyway, but I still have to display a disc to drive it on the road, which looks like it'll be another month before that's gonna happen Typical fookng red tape
escortV8 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 bar stewards...typical, dont try n enjoy urself! ps nice mk2 on ur footer
spitbarnatt Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 Make sure you get the tax class changed to 'historic' on the log book, this can only be done by the DVLA, otherwise the post office won't be able to give you your tax disc for free!
Posse Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 I would just use it pip like you said its tax free anyway.
Pipster007 Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 Make sure you get the tax class changed to 'historic' on the log book, It's all down on the form
Pipster007 Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 I would just use it pip like you said its tax free anyway. Sods law is that I'll get clobbered with a £1000 fine and they'll take it and crush it because that's the sort of thing that happens to me
over_head_cam Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 Fookin red bastard tape. I normally wait 1-2 weeks for V5s though Can't wait to see the new beastie Pip
Pipster007 Posted July 21, 2007 Author Report Posted July 21, 2007 Can't wait to see the new beastie Pip I'd be happy to just drive it
bomber1 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 i had a letter from dvla swansea yesterday about my mk2 questioning why the car when mot'd was put down as grey when on the logbook at the time it was still orange then changed to black? rang them up and explained that was before i owned the car and it is now black/yellow. ive now got to send the form logbook and mot off to be changed to black/yellow combo it know is i know u have to change the log book but mot certifcate as well?
marky4 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 this country has got mad with fooking red tape
mr 6ix Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 without the red tape they cant justify their existance n they would end up w*nking all day n getting paid for it
Admin Vista Posted July 21, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 21, 2007 Pip isn't the answer to go into your local VRO armed with your current reg document, MOT, insurance etc. Then simultaneously apply for a change in taxation class and a new style V5C? They should issue you a free tax disk across the counter and register you for a new V5C for free?

You can only apply online with the new style log books. Not the old fawn ones
