rob-loves-osf Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 right heres my position im now 15 and can get my 2nd osf next summer as were moving my parents are putting 1k away for me so wanting real advice do i get a newer car eg p reg 1.1 fiat cinqucneto sporting -very nippy and look ok-but ar every unrilable 1.0 vw polo -very very reliable -but very bland inside and out and slow mk3 fiesta 1.1 but mostly have worn engine and are starting to look bad and are needing as much work as a bad osf OR i keep to what i like and know better!!! mk1 fiesta supersport -very nice mk1 escort 1.3 or 1.1-like em mk2 escort 1.1 or 1.3-like em my parents were trying to talk me into mums ford ka 1300 s reg that looks pretty bad for an s reg rust on the tailgate spongy brake rusting drivers sill and 100k on the clock with prev damage where the near side wheel had hit a 4ft deep pot hole in the rain and smashed the shock right up through the wing and has had some welding done on the front chassis leg but would a mk2 or mk1 escort 1300 be safe and reliable for everyday use(keeping on top the servicing) what do you think?
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Get the fiat "cheekychapie" sporting anyday
rob-loves-osf Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 but why there hand brakes are naff and are unreliable my mk1 fezza has the same reliablity rating as one but they are nice! and very nippy what makes you say that??? rob
rob-loves-osf Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 ok well if you had the option over a fiat cinqucento 1.1 sporting and a mk1 or mk2 escort 1300 both in the best possible con with the exact same mileage what would you choose? or would you have the cinq sporting for the 1st year or 2 and well as my 2nd car i would have really liked as my most fav cars that i would really want would be a 2.0 sport frontera but do you think i should get a capri or mk1 or mk2 escort when im 18? rob

Mr Sam Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 mk1 fezza!! mk3 at a push........the cams in the HCS blocks are made of chease thats why they sound 'worn' and mine still sounds fresh at 80k
rob-loves-osf Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 hhhhhmmmm another problem there yeah i do like them the only prob is the other day in the ka as the zafira in front about 100 yds away threw out the anchors and a rover driver about 30 doing about 50 as we threw out the anchors came flyin up as i turned round i saw this rover flyin up and skid and swerve and well makes me think i dont really want to be in a small car i would rather have so space behind me or who ever is sat in the back but rwd fun too and so much class and respect! too rob I LOVE OLD SKOOL FORDS!!!!!! IM HOOKED FOR LIFE!!!!!!
james p Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 i had a ka mate proper little go kart treated it like shit for a year sold it to fund my white mk2 if its free and its there take it while you save for real cars

Copey Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 i had a 1.3 mk3 fiesta finesse for a 1st car mate, was a good little car, loved it to bits!! it got treated like shit too, still came bouncin back for more!
rob-loves-osf Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 ha might do but id rather do what my aunt did jump straight into her mk1 escy 1300
Copey Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 yeah dont get me wrong old school all the way, but its basically what you can get ur hands on for a 1st car, just a suggestion as they are cheap, reliable and easy to drive for a 1st car
rob-loves-osf Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 oh yeah dont get me wrong i love the mk3s and wouldnt mind one but that would be the only other car i would have if i couldnt find a good enough or right priced osf at the time they are good little cars too like them a lot rob
rob-loves-osf Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 copey did you go from a fiesta to a capper? what age?
bomber1 Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 my 4 door mk2 is reliable like any car it has had a run of money spent but once the car is sorted it will only need the basic mantinance to keep as a daily driver
Burns Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 i had a cinqucento for my first car, the engine fell out onto the road, that was a shite car my other half had a ka3 before the car she's got now, nice drive, steady, and handles like a go-kart, but it's not exactly a blokes car if you want some crumple room, my fezza's longer than my brother's 106 believe it or not. fezza's aren't as small as modern hatches.
Stu_B Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 My first car was a 1.0 polo! I loved it & they aren't that slow compared to fiestas etc!! but I smashed it up....
Miller Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 My first car was a 1.0 polo! I loved it & they aren't that slow compared to fiestas etc!! but I smashed it up.... Ah the old Mk2 Polo number plate curse, heres my old 1100 Coupe. Smashed that one up, but great first cars. To be honest if you look after them theres no reason why a 1.3 Mk2 or Mk1 Escort wont be reliable. They were very reliable cars in their day (and still are) and while age has worn out bits the trade off is that theres less to go wrong and that they are easy to work on when something does. Had I been able to afford the insurance I would have had one as my first car, an 1100 MK1 fiesta would be more affordable insurance wise and still a cool OSF. The only other thing that would put me off would be the mortality of peoples first cars, they only ever seem to last a few months (round here at least) until they get smashed up.
Wessie Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 being on www.oldskoolford.co.uk i think you would know what the majority of people would vote for
rob-loves-osf Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 well as ive driven the ka few times now and find very hard to see put of (being 6ft"5) i can only see the roof and the dash and 12 inch of road so its either a mk1 fezza or at a push(mk2) but i would preffer a mk1 or mk2 escort but if its not an osf it would only be a mk3 fiesta or mk4 escort 1300 but it is a very strong possibilty tho as the mk1 fiesta 1.1are pretty cheap and are about 1k for the best solid ones and the same for the mk2 escorts but with the mk1s there a little more but if i come accross one thats good then i will take it rob
rob-loves-osf Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 so what a few of you are saying is if im going for osf im going to make sure i get rid of all the rot and get whatever mechaincal needs doing then once its done just do normal routine serivcing ? would you drive a 20 something yr old osf everyday? rob
escort new boy Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 would you drive a 20 something yr old osf everyday? rob yes
Stu_B Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 I used to drive a rusty 35 yr old OSF everyday! I had no problems with reliability apart from snapping an engine mount (my fault!) A hole in the rad (bad luck) Uj's going (its a 35yr old car.......)
antz Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 cinq sporting will cost you more to insure than a mk1 fezza so you mght as well give up on a cinq (it was one of my options but i saw the price!) get a nice fezza m1
Copey Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 copey did you go from a fiesta to a capper? what age? yeah fiesta to capper, just after my 18th b-day, i was lookin for a 1.6 which was £12 a month more than the fiesta on insurance, which i thought was ace, until i saw a dead cheap 2.0, so i got a quote and it was £17 more a month than the fiesta, so i baught her!! £750 for the car, £1400 for the insurance
