badchild Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 After i bought my escort i knew i had been ripped off, but fook me the extent of it is only showing now, behind the dashboard is just held together with cable tie and brackets, leads, cables all tucked away out of sight and hidden from the eye, the bleak reality is, if cable ties wernt invented my car wouldnt be held together fookin stain, long runs the fox. Anybody else been caught like this? But on a lighter note as i said, its getting fixed sweet as a nut, should have her ready for the shows here. there are a couple coming up and i will post pics up
escamino Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 To be honest, not really. I'm too much of a cheapskate, so when I buy something I already expect the worst. Still anything can be fixed
Copey Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 when i got my capri they guy said it was running very well with a slight blow in the exhaust. went to view it, seemed to run and start really well and tickover flawlesly. i drove it home, and at every junktion it wanted to stall and die, i drove it from Preston to Southport which takes like 40 mins, must have stalled at least 20 times, i was gettin really pissed off at myself and just put it down to me not being used to the car etc, i let my mum and dad try to drive it, neither of them could even set off!! took it in to see what was wrong, turned out it was only runnin on 3 cylinders and the engine was totally off balance, it had a load of mods on, took a mechanic who is 50 and been working on cars since he was 12 2 weeks to sort it out, he had to undo and re-do everything that had been done so it all fitted together properly, and cause of the way the engine was it has fooked up the carb so it still not running perfectly now, its much better though, the guy only charged me £70 too, he has had a few goes with the carb, gettin parts off old ones and a service kit, but it is too far gone to fix totally, he did make it a lot better though
orionmojo Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 i cant remember who told me but i heard a horror story of a car not running properly, took the head off after not being able to find anyhting and there was a wooden piston in there
badchild Posted August 4, 2007 Author Report Posted August 4, 2007 I take it it wooden go properley? .............. sorry Lucky enough my mate has loads of ford parts at his disposal and has them onto it, but seriousley you should see the bodge jobs on the escort, no wonder it wouldnt start
morcheen Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 a wooden piston....was it a morgan? my mates old man done that to a rover v8 years ago,2 wooden pistons
over_head_cam Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 Wooden pistons are a really OLDskool way of keeping an old motor running. If you melt one or have some sort of problem you cut a log to exactly the size of the cylender and after removing the piston and the con rod you hammer the wood into the bore. It's an army thing I think

Gareth Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 Ripped off??? I was with my first mk1. MoT'd an taxed, got me from Bristol to Oxford. Cool Didn't realise how knackered it was til I stripped it down..... There isn't a panel on the car now that hasn't been repaired or replaced But on the flip side, I learnt to weld, and thats been a God send..... made me a few quid too
Rick Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 when i bought mine it was fooked and cost £300 but at least i knew what i was getting some people pay good money only to find a multitude of sins... shame really
