here it is my mk3 tina had half a vinel,on it when brought it,which i have just removed, and ordered a new one.

now for the problum the rust is very bad in the area were the roof was, have mounds which are still atched, been sanding away and its still going to be pitted.

in the pitted areas i was going to fill and sand down flat.

were the mounds are do you think i should take grinder to it to get down to reasonable leavle as they need to be removed.

my mate as said about p.v.a.glueing it once done and flat,i do no you can get rust treatment stuff but would this work,as they would still be tiney bits of rust left in the bottom of the pits.

the pics on show are with out any-sanding,any-advice would be use-full as want to have the tina on the road in six weeks

i suggest using a knoted wire wheel for the grinder as these take away rust but wont take off the good metal, and to treat it im not sure what it's caled but here is a rust treatment that chemically changes the iron oxide into a primeable surface  baz

look for JENOLITE or similar spelled stuff. its the stuff Baz is on about. take off as much rust as you can, slap this stuff on, work it in with a wire brush [if that makes sense] for best effect, leave to dry, primer it and slap the vinyl over it. Its good sh*t. Me and the old man use it on allsorts.

Dont use Jelonite or any other crap that tells you it converts it, it does not!,

What you need to do if you want it to last is remove as much rust as possible with 80 grit sandpaper or DA disks,

Then when its down to pitted but shiny metal pop to halfrauds and get some Rust remover jell ( it comes in a 1/2 or 1 liter pot ) its a acid that actualy eats the rust away, folow the instructions and use a wire brush to clean it off reapplie it until all the rust has gone from the pits, sand again with 120 or 180 grit then you need to Etch prime the roof, then put a top coat on it (pref 2 pack but celulose will do)

I know painting something that you dont see sounds pointless but primer soaks up water and it will rot out again

Hope you have a compresor and a spray gun !

keep at it mate. id get one of those wire wheels for your grinder to do it, theyre fierce and get into all the small pitting that you cant with sandpaper
