old skool freestyler Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 i just brought a compressor and spray gun was just wondering whats the best way to spray? like do i move the gun up and down or side to side? i know you have to put in the paint like 2 parts thinners 1 part paint or whatever how do you work it out as not sure
flyingbanana Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 all depends on what panel you are doing ...but you need to go over 75% of your last spray other wise you willl see faint lines between the coats .....have a practice
old skool freestyler Posted September 2, 2007 Author Report Posted September 2, 2007 oh 1 more question whats the bast way to clean the gun take it to bits or my mate has a cleaner thing you just spray threw the gun
Rick Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 i wouldnt thin it down that much mate your more likely to get runs, 50/50 works well enough. spray your panel side to side, then top to bottom and repeat until your happy have fun i would clean after every use too just in case any shite blows out in your next use... its gutting when you ruin a good job because you were too lazy to clean the gun properly. ...and i still do it i never learn
old skool freestyler Posted September 2, 2007 Author Report Posted September 2, 2007 cheers people gona have a go next weekend
Nettles Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 The trick is to get plenty of practice in first fella. Give yourself plenty of time to do the job, don’t rush it. Also make sure you’ve got plenty of room as well. Keep your movements smooth and don’t stop on the panel, always run off the edge. Work out what distance to hold the gun from the surface your gonna spray to ensure a good even coverage. There’s deffo an art to spraying and it just comes with plenty of practice. Good luck
old skool freestyler Posted September 2, 2007 Author Report Posted September 2, 2007 ummm room is gona be a bit of a prob have to make up a tent thing round car thanks for the advice shall start practicing asap
kirk10 Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 personaly i stand to the side when spraying then making the most of your reach with your arm so you dont have to cross your body with the smooth movement also that way you can see the paint go on the panel and no when you have enough on and your speed is right mix the paint 50 -50 like whats been said or 40 paint and 60 thinners but practise first you will be fine if the end result is orange peel afect dont panik just wet flat it down when dry and g3 it back up
john_3.0s Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 just wet flat it down when dry and g3 it back up whats g3??

Jarrodm Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 Lacquer.... When i metal flaked my FS1E i did about 3 days of prep work on just 4 panels ! Good preperation is key....Spend as long as you can practicing and then getting the panels perfect before spraying. Leave it lots of time to dry between coats and be REALLY carefull when it's al done. It'll take about a week to fully harden then you can polish or t cut it as much as you want ! Have fun. Jarrod
