antz Posted August 29, 2006 Author Report Posted August 29, 2006 How about something odd ball like dare i say it a bike engine bit off a bugger to fit but they are light and make good power and are tuneable as hell suzuki haybusa makes according to performace bikes magazine 157bhp 95.19lb-ft @ wheel and you can turbo them and they easily make 500bhp. Outside the box i know but worth a passing thought. seen that done to a smart car it flew!
johnboy Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Pintos are a great engine, cheap, strong, reliable and the powers OK in a light car. I love mine to bits.... ....But I dont see how you can possibly compare a pinto to a XE! Zetec to XE maybe, but a pinto is not in the same league! Its always going to be 40 or 50 BHP behind a XE no matter what your budget is. Lets put it this way, drive a 2 litre Sierra, then a Chavalier GSI back to back and then try and say the pinto is a better engine!

russ350lc Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 How about a Pinto with a 16V head?Ummm!!! what do they call them? Oh I know...Cosworth or Warrior or even Millington. DONT THINK MANY OF US HAVE MILLINGTON OR WARRIOR MONEY
Fiesta Steve Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 i dont care for the longevity of a bike engine even pulling 150kg of bike and rider Modern Jap bikes just don't go wrong. Hang 'em of the limiter at 13,000 rpm all day long and they just keep going. But I agree, an Escort is no place for a wee bike engine. I hate the sound that Pinto's make although a pair of webers help to drown it out. If I can't vote x-flow i'm gonna sit on the fence
Mr Sam Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 How about a Pinto with a 16V head?Ummm!!! what do they call them? Oh I know...Cosworth or Warrior or even Millington. volvo heads can be mutated onto a pinto block
Awesome Al Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Well although i'm always hugely impressed when i come across xe powered Fords i would still have to vote Pinto, you can get loads of cheap power out of her, parts are just about everywhere, & after 200bhp it realy becomes irrelavent anyway, it's also a ford motor otherwise you may as well just say fook it & slip in a Ferrari motor? And just remember this, as the great Mr Ron Harris once said "horse power sells engine's, torque wins race's. Nuff said ykt

sambo Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Tough one really, i havent been in an XE powered ford, but they are obviously good engines. The only real benefit of the pinto is that its cheaper so just doing a swap from say, a crossflow for instance, go for the pinto. if your starting with a fresh project and you have the extra cash, i would go for the XE purely because, its easier and probably cheaper to wring over 200bhp from. but you do have the conversion costs. Any way, i love the pinto. OLD SKOOL IS COOL.
antz Posted February 20, 2008 Author Report Posted February 20, 2008 jonny u nutter!!! how far did you go back to find this!? the last reply was Wed Aug 30, 2006 9:28 am
Wessie Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Keep it Old skool and FORD! you went fishing ! jesus this thread is old oh and xe ykt
Guest MK1gaz Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Blimey , it's rave from the grave this thread . voted pinto because an XE won't overtake unless you spend 3 times as much on it
Noodles Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I went for pinto but atm im liking the sound of 3.0 duratec v6
bmxdave Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Am i a bad man for voting XE? I said XE because although the conversion parts can be expensive, youd have to spend the cost of the conversion on the pinto to get even more power. After that the Pinto gets ridiculously expensive needing steel parts whereas you can squeeze 180bhp or more with relatively little outlay and still have more potential.
harris horse power Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 gotta be pinto , i havnt seen many if any proper quik xe powerd osf up the pod , but ive seen plenty pinto's.

MK2Ed Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Fully understand the merits of the modern engine and no doubt about it the XE can push out some figures ... But the Pinto has X factor for me ... So Pinto
Mk 1 Mark Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Kev16v had a quick starlet powered by an Xe
