FlashCadillac Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 right... mk2 cortina with something very heavy on the roof... obviusly popped the roof out of shape at some point (pushed the middle downwards) the roof was pushed out again and left creases in all four corners where the edge of the fold was... ....how would a bodyman get rid of these creases :-S (just for the record.... my mate bought the car like this ) Thanks
Fiesta Steve Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 Metal dollies, metal hammer, filler.
FlashCadillac Posted September 10, 2007 Author Report Posted September 10, 2007 is the headliner going to have to come out??
negri Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 if you use the dollies and hammer then i would say so . depends how much give is in the material , but to stop the material getting damaged then yea . could remove one corner at a time though so it isnt so hard to get back together
Jubfab Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 had to repair a MK2 Consul for someone - very similiar damage to what you describe. I didn't want to take the headlining out due to it's age and being brittle. Providing the headlining is close to the roof skin (ie you can push the headlining to the roof panel) then I would say it's worth a try with the headlining in. I covered my dolly with mutton cloth (oh er missus - sounds rude!!! ) then using a nice light panel hammer gently planished the crease down. Did all 4 like that, thin skim of gob (sorry filler) prime and paint. Looked ace when done and owner was a very happy bunny. I'd be happy to have a look for you (are you still in sunny Yorkshire or have you moved back down southhh ?)

Rick Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 mine was like that when i had it. you need someone on the inside to put some upward pressure on it while the other person taps the creases flat with a small hammer. this willl put a lot of strength back in the panel but you will have to do filling cuz you wont get it perfect unless your shit hot
