lee_capri Posted September 29, 2007 Report Posted September 29, 2007 i was woundering if they is such a thing as compertion head geasket set's for a pinto,if so are they realy any-better then standed one,as want to put my head on next week as the rest of my part's will be here
capriclive Posted September 29, 2007 Report Posted September 29, 2007 yes you can get competition head gaskets for pintos. a lot more expensive than standard ones though. can get them from www.burtonpower.co.uk unless you engine is built to wild spec, standard gasket is more than upto the job.
tommurphy73 Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Some of the competition head gaskets such as Felpro are thinner than the standard head gasket which has the effect of increasing the compression ratio and also improving squish(piston closer to the head at TDC) which helps prevent the engine from detonation. Regards Tom
Admin Vista Posted September 30, 2007 Admin Report Posted September 30, 2007 I had a chat about this with my engine builder as my engine was built up. His answer was yes you can get competition head gaskets, but that for what they cost over standard ones they aren't worth the money. In fact he went on to describe them as one of the best cases of over & unneccesary engineering (in order to persuade a customer to part with extra money that he doens't need too) that is available on the market today. I took him at his word as he has a long established reputation as a builder of race winning engines.

I agree with Vista on this one, the standard head gasket is the best gasket unless you are running very wild spec. I also chose a £5 standard head gasket and with over 150 bhp in my x-flow its been fine for many years
lee_capri Posted September 30, 2007 Author Report Posted September 30, 2007 cheer's guy's going for standed one then as i dint no that's y i asked
