m1c Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 main question is is the clutch on an essex V6 cable or hydrolic (sp?) operated?? for arguments sake, say you couldnt fit a clutch pedal with the other 2 and had to find another way of operating it, what would you do?! ive thought about a motorbike style lever on the gearstick (!) but that depends on if its cable operated or not... and if thats gonna be safe or not! anyway, more ideas welcome! mic
bortaf Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Corsiar V4s were hydrolic, consol/granada where cable Not sure a motorbike lever will give you enough leverage or travell for a car clutch
joker Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 i like two pedals for if one cable goes i have other one mate.
dragaddict Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 the cable is more trouble free than hydrolic
capriaddict Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 main question is is the clutch on an essex V6 cable or hydrolic (sp?) operated?? Cable operated AFAIK, all my essex V6 capri's are and my MK1 granada.
Popuptoaster Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 you could use a motorbike brake lever with a built in hydraulic resovoir on your gear lever and set up a hydraulic clutch, be much lighter to use than a cable set up with the added adavantage of being MUCH easier to route the pipes cos you can do right angles and go through tighter spaces where with a cable you need much more room to run it with no sharp bends in it. Hydraulic clutches are much less trouble than cable ones, by the time the seals go or they start leaking a cable one will probably have had 5 or 6 cables on it and they are self adjusting without using dodgy plastic ratchets.
escort21 Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 I have a V4 bellhousing sitting in the shed which has a hydraulic thingy on it
john_3.0s Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 yeah their cable operated mate sorry meant the capri and granada ones
Col-ashtonmobile Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 cosairs zodiacs = hydraulic granada capri transit= cable
Mr Sam Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 so then silly kinda OT topic while people are discussing hydrolic with bike lever could you use bike leaver and mount it on the gear stick
Fiesta Steve Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 so then silly kinda OT topic while people are discussing hydrolic with bike lever could you use bike leaver and mount it on the gear stick Can't see why not. Might take a bit of getting used to
