having just got back from the rollers am a bit disappointed on how much my car is pushing out went in at 115@3857 came out at 119.6 @4000 and bhp is now 106@5017 was told my head is to big for the cam i have so now i have to get a better cam and a dizzy and carb to go with head and new cam when i get it.at the moment its a fr30 cam with a stage 3 head running on a 38degas

with a full Ashley single box system :?:?:?

what size pinto is it? 1600 ? is that the torque or power figure your quoting?

you want at least a fr32 in a 2L motor to see much difference. peak power seems a bit too early aswel really 4000rpm is more like a torque figure area. peak power should be coming in around 5500rpm.

another thought, where did the head come from? some shocking 'staged' heads about that are acutally worse than a std head.

119.6 is torque and 106 is bhp so it looks like i need an fr32 but will i need new lifters etc or will the 1's i have be ok and i need a dizzy and carb Any recommendations not to big as it is my every day car

Bin the 38 dgas mate and get some dcoe's . Even a standard pinto with a good exhaust and twin carbs will go well

its probably the cam. its a high torque cam youve got in there, if you want more power up rate to an fr32/33 the dgas can fuel upto 160bhp so dont worry about changin it just yet. other than making sure the ignition timing and cam timing are spot on thats about it. your cam is under rated for the head...

cheers nat said i needed to match dizzy with cam any ideas??and also with the lifters etc i have with the fr30 cam will i need to change them as well

it depends on how many miles the cam has done? idealy youd use new followers with a new cam at the very least.

matching dizzys to cams isnt easy and best left to a pro. a 'race' dizzy would most likely be suited to a hotter cam (ie the fr32/33) because different cams need different ignition advances. if your worryed about the dizzy, get a standard dizzy and use it until your confident of setting the dizzy up or can get it proffessionally tuned (the dizzy). a standard dizzy will be ok with a fr32/33.

tuning dizzys is difficult becuase your trying to match weights and spring rates against the needs of the engine (not an easy job to do, let alone understand how to do it).

am i missing something here aint torque were the power comes from. to have a higher torque reading then bhp is a good thing. raise the comp ratio first then watch the hp match the torque

The torque is the pulling power your engine has...the higher the better. The bhp is the maximum power your engine will make if you rev the shit out of it. WPE is saying that to get more power why not raise the compression ratio as the rest seems good

I got 143bhp using a fr30. Great cam for a road car and the torque was excellent. My car was in the first edition of Retro Ford when it was at a rolling road shoot out. you can see the dyno print out.
