Just spent six hours changing a wish bone on my Mondeo cos Ford kindly put the gear box right on top of the front bolt, had to drop out the subframe just to get clearance to pull the bolt, what a complete arse ache

don't you have to have it all re-aligned after droping the sub frame or is that the rear only

had a new quack-fit back box on me mum mondeo then had to pay £40 to get it realigned at a dealers after

£45 back box ended up costing £165 cos it scrubbed both rear tyres before somone told me

did you drop both sides or just the near side? they're easy to be honest once you know what you are doing.

undo both bolts that go through the geae box mounts,undo subframe bolts on n/s and use a long pole or leaver bar and pull down.

you get just enough room to pull the bolt out.

 

why did qwik fit drop rear subframe to fit an exhaust?????? never in my life have i had to do that to a mondildo.

Yep, agreed! I smoked about in a £300 K plate 2litre Vauxhall Camelsear for 3 years. I went everywere in it. Almost zero running costs and no depreciation to worry about. Sold it on last year for £200. Almost motoring for free plus your not worried if it gets the odd knock or scrape. It even turned heads due to looking a little rough

I really cant see the point in throwing away money on running a 5K or more piece of plastic which does exactly the same job..

 

Due to being a cabbie nowadays, I run a 52plate Mondello TDCi. The crappy dual mass flywheel gave up on me in Feb. I took one look at the job and shat meself. A mate in the trade with better facilities did the job for me at a very favourable rate. It's the first time in years that I've been defeated Strangely though I didnt think twice about the far bigger job of completely tearing an Anglia apart to stuff a cossie lump in

Had to take a drive shaft out of a ford probe just so i could change the alternator. A job that would takes 2 mins tops on an osf took nearly an hour.

Thats how I did it in the end had to jack the gearbox up aswell, just took some figuring out wasn't expecting it to be such a twat, lying on my back in the dark didn't help either

Considering how fast mondeos eat lower arms I would think there are very, very few which still have the bolt going downwards.

It's an MOT fail so there shouldn't be Plus it's dangerous as hell as you can't split pin it.

I've replace a box and scrapped a mondildo that had the bolt fitted that way,the gearbox mounts and torque stabilers wear,causing the box to drop,the point of that bolt then wears through the casing.

I've never,ever done that. doing the job semi-correctly only takes an extra 10 mins anyway.
